Takashi had basically the same Gameplan like you, tell Saeko that he likes her for who she is, so that he has better chances of survival. Which like you said, is a double edged sword, if he "cheats" on her or does anything else to upset her a lot... he is probably dead. Sad that next week is already the finish line.
