Apothecary Diaries S2 Ep. 9 Reaction [FULL]

Comments

I gotta say...I realize you watch a ton of shows and you forget shit, but that is part of the appeal to your reactions. You don't get all high and might about it and it's entertaining. Whith this show anyone can get confused. I do all the time. I didn't clock the Shisui/ Loulan connection until the episode where they gave massages to the mid and low ranked concubines, when Maomao brings Lady Lishu over and Shisui dies out. Keep up with your theories in shows please. You hit on them more than you realize, and even when you are wrong they make sense most of the time.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Wait why is "yobimasho" translated as "I will find him", when we literally see it's an order for Anshi's lady-in-waiting to go look for him (since she knows who the servant is, obviously), which she does as we can clearly see her leave the entrance area, whereas Gaoshun is clearly not moving anywhere from there? Technically I think the term translates to "call/call out" (as in "call out for X") not whatever the sub says... I think the unaccepted female offspring was from the emperor before the lolicon emperor, since it clearly predates even Anshi since from her POV it happened in the past, and by her time presumably the doctors were already castrated. So basically the emperor w/ fucky wucky lineage where the 99% of the kids are susceptible to plague or w/e wiping em all out due to being too genetically similar, denied the daughter as his (so the daughter could be alive somewhere out there, and have her own kids by now, since she would probably be like Anshi age at least if it happened in the past before Anshi gave birth to her son. And the female offspring went w/ the exiled doctor. Who knows about medicine but isn't a doctor, hmm? W/ potential connection and thus a motive to try to sabotage the Imperial Family. Food for thought, indeed). Clearly the previous emperor had plenty of kids, so maybe he was a fuckboi enough to have kids he'd just not acknowledge as his, especially if they are just useless females who can't rly even inherit the patrilinear position, unless there was literally no male heirs left, even in parallel lines. I doubt the current emperor had that many, and none that we know were actually denied to not be his, i.e the 2 male heirs (this truly proves that Anshi is an SSS-tier wife, w/ that scale of male-only production line, which would have been a valuable trait back in the day for heir production etc (you might have even heard of similar bragging about lineage of producing only male offspring in some court drama type settings from potential spouse candidates among nobility/royalty)). I mean granted, for NOBLES a female offspring can be a W if you already have your primary & secondary heirs, because of marriage gambit. But for Royals/Imperials, princesses are only a headache, and they would benefit more from boys only, who they can marry to high-tier nobles' extra female kids as a sort of power expansion, politically speaking. So they are motivated in inverse, where females are only a headache whereas w/ nobles they would at least have some benefit (arguably even more so than 3rd+ male progeny would depending on specific variables etc). I'm not sure if Joe caught that (looked to be too busy petting the cat), but Loulan's dad suggested expanding the Rear Palace for w/e reason. The subs referring to Jinshi are weird af, and make no sense given what follows them. The version I had (IDK if it's from Muse Asia or w/e), used the key term "illegitimate child" instead, IDK where they get the weird immortality/mistake bit, since she's talking about Jinshi, and we know he's neither of the 2 terms the cronchy sub uses. I think the Muse Asia(?) subs made more sense translation wise, because they basically imply that while Jinshi isn't her legit child, he's still just as valuable as any child to her, especially since she has seen him grow up over these years, so in the end it basically doesn't matter. Let me see if I can get a ready screencap from Reddit discussion thread, since someone else even there pointed out the weird subs, I'll attach a link afterwards if I do. EDIT: found the sub screenshots from alt source (poster guesses Muse or Prime as the source), so I'll just drop the imgur links here so you guys can make your own decision based on these alt subs, knowing cronchy fucks up shit all the time: https://imgur.com/8KVFZ6g https://imgur.com/eMxylCk I think this episode once again highlights the previously hinted at hyperawareness traits that Jinshi has. He recalled a randomass servant girl mumbling about something in S1E1 after he was already busy because of the child sickness stuff investigations etc, and now he recalled that Anshi used to favor that color. We also know that the emperor gets confused when visiting Loulan, who has suspiciously identical hair color/eye color + stature ladies-in-waiting, so maybe the emperor also had this trait, and he gets subconsciously confused but can't put 1+1 together like Jinshi probably could, given we know he can actually actively recall stuff like this. I mean we don't rly see many scenes of the emperor, so maybe we just can't see any scenes so far where this type of stuff would be relevant enough for us to get evidence that the emperor can actively recall the picked up data consciously as well, but I digress...

Alot of little things got dropped this EP. I did not even think about the potential abuse, good on you for catching that. I am conflicted about the late emperor. On one hand he did some questionable stuff but if that is the result of his upbringing it is gonna be hard to hate him for that. We will see if we ever get answeres regarding the late emperor and his relationship with his mom. I also wonder who the exiled daughter could be.

Muligan Shinzuo

The voice of the Empress Dowager actually goes deeper when narrating the flashback here, much closer to the other times where voice actress Mamiko Noto voicing women with great power and authority. And yet, she still sounds much younger, even playful, when talking to Jinshi this episode.

Whitehorse49

I agree , I am locked in with all the lore. Its intense.

Kenise Harvey
