It’s (probably?) “supposed” to guard the pillar against damage, but because humanity assumed it was an infernal, it got targeted (with the pillar by proxy). Like, distance was /wonky/ in this episode, but while the firing squad looked like they pushed it back, I don’t know that it was actually trying to make it to the shore at all. . If the White Clad need it destroyed to make their next move, then it’s /gotta/ be a good thing, doesn’t it?
