• In Korea, tigers are a symbol of both fear and reverence. Before Japaneses drove them to extinction, tigers were believed to be spiritual guardians of the mountains(산군/SanGoon/King of the mountain), almost like divine beings. That’s why the last tiger came from North Korea in the drama is regarded as a mystical creature (like the phoenix or blue dragon in East Asian mythology). • Jang Man-wol is technically dead, but she’s forced to remain in the world of the living by deities who govern life & death. Because she took so many lives during her lifetime, she must atone for her sins by running the hotel before she can truly pass on. • When Man-wol says things like “You should think of red bean porridge when you think of tigers” or tells the story of the rice cake seller, she’s referencing traditional Korean folktales like “The Redbean porridge Granny and the Tiger”(팥죽할멈과 호랑이) and “The Rice Cake Seller and the Tiger”(떡장수와 호랑이). Tigers appear in almost every Korean folktales, they were once so common and deeply symbolic that they became a recurring figure in the country’s traditional stories.

2025-06-17 20:59:48 +0000 UTCFor me it always feels like the show really started the moment that manager No's passing is revealed, while he's talking to Chansung. Not only does Chansung realise why it's worth to work at the hotel, but in the scene right after we see a vulnerable and emotional side of Manwol (Ms. Jang) for the first time. Really love the build up towards that moment. The tiger storyline is so interesting as well with how it's resolved. From here on out the show really picks up and gets better and better imo, curious how it will turn out for you while watching the next few episodes.
