room 404 doesn't really make you do anything nor is it special in any way cause its a room specially for the humans. so its a room humans can stay in, meaning an absolutely ordinary hotel room. as they have been saying, only way to check out of the hotel is to afterlife so humans (alive) can't check out of the hotel. when chan-sung went in that hotel, they said he won't be back for a while. when the couple came out of the room, the hallway looked totally different and the door no longer existed. so basically when the humans come out of the room, its a totally different location. that's why they are instructed to not come out until they have to leave.
