Just a quick explanation on why the ministers were so agitated at the court meeting at the beginning. In the past and especially in Asian or Islamic countries one of the most important social obligations (in lack of a better terminology) is hospitality. It’s not just a curtesy but it is actually a way of showing how highly you value a person that is your guest. The higher you value them the more you are going to cater to their preferences and the more money you are going to spend on treating them, which includes the giving of gifts as well. So if a high official of a country that is more powerful/influential (it is my assumption here that the Chinese imperial court is more powerful than the Korean royal court) than your own country pays a visit, you will do everything in your power to ensure their positive attitude towards you. Even more so, if the official is here to negotiate/collect tributes and agrees on trading deals between the two countries. You might be depended on goods from them or need them to buy wares from you. So insulting or disrespecting the visiting diplomat is counterproductive. Sorry this got way longer than intended. 😅
