this might be light spoiler but its later stated that the posible reason for changping massacre was that to many had surrender if you think about it 400 thousand soildiers had surrenders so obviosly logistcally it was like nightmare because you have to where to place them , guard them to prevent them from attempting something , feed them all while fighitng a war which would have obviously put their own army at a terrible disadvantage.

2025-09-24 23:47:18 +0000 UTCI think empathy is trying to understand what someone is feeling, whereas sympathy is feeling bad for someone's misfortune. I think it's good to be able to "empathize" with villains or even bad people in history. If you've ever heard of the German movie "Downfall", it depicts Hitler's last days in his bunker. The movie makes no attempt to sympathize with him or his cause, but it does empathize with him as a person--how a person could be so evil and broken, and trying to understand him from that perspective. I remember episode 7 of this season was the first time I felt like Xin was really... growing beyond the idea of being a general. When he made his mind to the King with unifying the Middle Kingdom, that was also sort of going over it, but that was for the purpose of being an even "greater general." Here, he finds motivation for reasons more personal to him, but less about his specific status individually. It's great stuff
