Selena held his hand as she led him back into the castle. They entered through the main door, passing a few maids and guards as they moved down the long hallway. As they entered what Ash assumed was the western wing of the castle, he noticed how empty it was, given its size. Here, they only passed a single guard and a maid.

“Not a lot of staff on this side,” he commented.

Selena hummed.

“My Uncle and Aunt took up residence in the eastern wing. The western is only used for visiting guests, to give them some privacy.”

It didn’t escape Ash how Selena squeezed his hand at the word ‘privacy’ or the slight blush she now had. They soon arrived at one door, and Selena paused, drawing a deep breath.

“This will be our room for the night,” she said timidly.

The room was spacious, about the size of the living room of the Flatiron. A large canopy bed big enough to hold five people rested in the center of the room. Thick curtains made the canopy, and it was clear from the lack of any cover on the large windows that they were the source of privacy for those sleeping in this room.

Selena turned to look at him, holding his hand.

“I haven’t been shy about my intentions with you, Ash.” She rubbed his hand, and his violet eyes looked up to him. “Tonight, will you take me as your woman?”

Ash leaned forward, kissing Selena.

“Yes,” he said.

Selena drew a deep breath and stepped away from him. She moved to a small table where their travel supplies rested and pulled out a vial from one of the bags. She opened it and downed the contents.

“I’m ready,” she said, walking back to him.

She held out her hand, as if expecting him to take it so she could lead him to the bed. Instead, Ash kissed her hand before sweeping Selena off her feet, holding her in his arms.

He set her on the edge of the bed, and Selena moved to close the curtains of the canopy until there was only an opening where they faced each other. He thought she was nervous and might want their first time without the lights on, but then Selena waved her hand.

A ball of Light Magic floated to the roof of the canopy bed, casting light over them. Selena bit her lip as she scooted back into the bed. Her pale legs peeked from under the purple dress she wore.

Ash crawled into the bed, closing the last curtain as he did. He took Selena in before he made his way to her, his hand running up one of her pale legs. Their lips locked in a kiss again as he gripped her thigh. He tasted the potion she had taken and recognized it.

“Was that potion…” he started to ask before she kissed him again.

Her violet eyes shone when she broke away and licked her lips. “We’re safe.”

She sat up, pulling her dress up and over her head, then tossed it off the side of the bed to the floor. Her pale skin almost glowed in the light of her magic as she lay back down.
