I have however been rewatching Angela's line from the wellness influencers episode at 0.25. You know the one I'm talking about. Jeremy is smiling at her and then as she finishes the sentence "... Makes Mommy happy" you see this look come across his face and then watch the other two react. And that's been my hyperfocus this evening. That episode has so many incredible moments.

2025-04-04 18:23:24 +0000 UTCMusic theory and psychology guy here! (so I guess music scientist?) Domino is special in the way the melody and harmonies during the chorus mesh together. Even though it is in the key of G major and the melody in the chorus is so closely surrounding G major, the chorus harmonic progression doesn’t use G major! In an abstract sense, the progression creates a sense of yearning, feeling both unresolved and at home at the same time. In music theory terms it’s giving IV - ii - vi - Vsus4 half cadences and the G in the susV half cadence AND melody make the phrase feel complete but still waiting on resolution. Using the tonic note as a dissonance in the half cadence also matches well with the subsequent use of the high D in the melody matched with a C major chord in the start of the harmonic progression. In conclusion, there’s a sense of sad-happy pop in pairing the chorus’ minor chords with dissonant major chords. But that’s just my take on it!

I, however, did *not* expect that ending. That disturbed me, but I'm not upset. It was a shock and it made me feel things, which is one of the desired outcomes of art AFAIK.

Long story short I invited my brother and we went to the Yankees game for free so it was quite literally "bring your friends to Yankee Stadium day" because my boss needed to give the tickets away lol
