They just happen to be polygamous, and the head of the clan selected 3 wives for Uzui, as per their own personal family tradition of polygamy, as Tanjiro further explains in the Taisho era secrets segment. However, to give a "possible" answer on the ratio of men to women existing among the shinobi population *if* all ninjas took this practice. There is a scientific theory that's yet to be proven/made theorem, but evidence suggests that men who are under constant physical and psychological stress can impair spermatogenesis, specifically of the Y chromosome. Thus its more likely to have female children instead of males. The inverse is also theorized for women. So in this imaginary scenario of every ninja having 3 wives, I'm taking a real big stretch of an assumption to say, the 3 wives, whom are also kunoichi, would have varying level of stressors, and this may increase the likelihood of the family line continuing to produce male offspring, despite the increased likelihood of female offspring. As they likely have an ( unfair :c ) gender bias on becoming the next head or passing down secret family techniques in the world of shinobi. This practice might have started after generations of population decline, in attempts to keep a secretive culture, like being shinobi, in existence. But that said, demon slayer is not that deep haha, its just polygamy for him alone, because Uzui lives a FLASHY life hahaha

2025-08-30 04:33:39 +0000 UTCI'd imagine that in their Shinobi culture that Uzui is from, a lot of the men probably get killed off on missions etc., so there might not even be enough men for 1 to 1 relationships. So the men that do survive are assigned multiple wives that are picked by the head of the family, as they said.
