Some countries use this name format that the family name is first and then the given name. It is like this in Japan, Korea and Hungary for example.

Shikamaru giving up at the last second seems like more of a flex to me. As if he’s saying “see how easy this was for me? So easy that I don’t need to be declared the winner. so, I’ll LET you have it.”
I know he was almost out of chakra, but he could’ve easily thrown a kunai and won. Tamari only carries a fan, so she wouldn’t have anything to throw whilst under shadow possession🤷🏻♂️😁

This is from a reddit post where a japanese person answered: It's just a matter of culture, it's mostly because your family is seen as more important than you, an individual, you are a part of the greater clan, your last name is your social standing, so it would come first, in order to inform people of how important you are, especially seeing as it was unlikely everyone would know the first name of everyone in s given clan, but the clan name itself would be instantly recognized.
