Comments

Had to stop in the middle of the video to tell y’all to run with that idea. The Mallory Awards is a brilliant vision.

Kay

You make a valid point, but I will say they have the right to be as opinionated as they are. While they, especially Terrance, is very staunch in his attitude towards BET and black ownership, we shouldn’t dismiss what he’s actually saying. In addition to that, you don’t know what roadblocks might be in the way that might be hindering them from making to that next level. I think that them just creating a platform where they can discuss and disclose these issues as young black men who happen to be film majors is proactive in and of itself. Pac wasn’t sold on the idea that he would change the world, but he did believe in inspiring the next generation. I think that these two deserve that same respect.

Also the B.E.T awards used to be a big deal , but when we don’t have the investors to help fund new ideas and experience’s as business owners and thinkers they have to make the tough decisions that “watchers “ won’t understand. Also Patreon is not a black owned company but you all are using it “the white mans app” Youtube is another example “white mans app” which is why they can control their platform and the content you all post . The company that prints your t-shirts I’m sure are a “white mans app” I think the bigger discussion should be inclusion with majority African American ownership .

To piggyback off of the B.E.T black ownership discussion , I find that way too many of us “black Americans “ sit back and complain/ discuss our culture’s issues. Instead of putting in the work to have a seat at the table to assist in making the decisions on what goes on in our movies , tv shows , and platforms. Ex : Issa Rae and “insecure” a black woman who created a show to mirror her experience as an A.A. woman she’s out here doing the work. You two gentlemen are film major’s who could be working in the film industry to give input and representation for our culture , but respectfully you choose to talk about it for $3 a month to patrons who don’t necessarily have the gate key to these said organizations. I get your hard working men who need to make a living , but if your not gonna get your hands dirty and work to fix the said issues , “what are you really talking about ? “
