We just need to accept that the criteria for each of the big three is different. The arguments popularly used against each is almost null and void when it comes to others. For Cole, people complain about his inability to switch up his content. While people say how come that's not something we say about Drake, is because there's a double standard. For Drake he's the only artist gets flack for selling well, yet if someone else sells well, they're praised for it, double standard. For Kendrick, he gets flack for always being too "rarity rap" while other artists get praised whenever they go content heavy, double standard. That being said, they're the big 3 for a reason.

Cole always gon be true to himself, even if its to his own detriment (In the eyes of casual fans). Its like Russel Westbrook when he always goes so hard sometimes too hard when its not necessary, but he’s always himself. Cole not gonna rap about tellin a bitch to pipe down cause thats not his life anymore. The man happily married with two kids lol. Cole my favorite rapper. I don’t think he’s the best lyrically compared to Kendrick, or able to sell the way Drake does, but I would still put Cole ahead of those two, and here is why: his story is not an easy one to market or to rap about. Kendrick grew up in the hood in compton, Drake is an actor turned song writer playboy. Cole is kid with a single mom who busted her ass to get him out the hood and into a decent middle class home. He went to college. Of course his life story has a ton of ups and downs, but I think to the casual listener, that story doesn’t compare to Kendrick or Drake. BUT, I would dare Drake or Kendrick to try to be as successful if they had Cole’s life story. I don’t think they woulda made it. Cole is truly the artist of the people and speaks for the kids who didn’t necessarily have it the worst but still had problems of their own to overcome and be great. To be as successful as he is with that kind of story and that talented is legendary shit. Introspection and storytellin has always been Cole’s bread and butter. With all that being said, the casual listener I feel like doesn’t take any of that into consideration at all, and they always want him to do something different, but they never say that about Drake or Kendrick. And when Cole did do something different (KOD) it wasn’t well received which is CRAZY cause that album is so underrated. Like they always complain he rap about the same shit but then get mad when he gets outside the box it makes no sense.
