That's super interesting. I'm familiar with family power structures in different cultures being super important. But the different table thing was pretty new for me.

Regarding Gwansik transferring from one table to another when their daughter didnt have peas anymore, it was a big deal because heads of the family has a separate table than the rest of the family ( heads are grandma, dad in law, and gwansik. And the other table is aesun, mother in law, and geummyeong). The head of the family table gets the better portion for food as well, which was why they had more peas in their rice compared to the other table. By transferring tables, he’s ignoring his family’s power structure. He cares about his daughter and wife more than tradition, and he’s willing to break norms to better serve his family ( in this case, give more peas to his daughter)
