Axel's creation was a complex one in every sense and was originally going to be datable by Ace or Zobbe, but that would have been too complex. As you may know, he is based on one of LizardSoup's fave creatures: the gorgonopsid (not to be confused with a walrus!)
We took some great robotic inspirations including creatures who wear visors. Axel was originally "bald" and bare-bellied with less leg armor, but it just wasn't looking right.
Nothing is mine except for the doodle in the lower-right of the reference sheet.
As for the cowboy inspiration, Gab is responsible for "birthing" that with this lovely image! And so after the game came out, we added some things to improve Axel's personality. Give Gab some love!
