The hills are alive

Slide to see the still from the colored scene this animation is used in!

Got to fine tune some shots and revive the enjoyment of the process after I chose to slow down a bit. This however doesn't mean that it should be delayed by another month! Let's count on these being the final scenes that are needed to be colored and finalized and go on to finishing it soon. Ghostoftheoldworld birthday is coming up btw.

Have ya'll had your birthdays already this year?

Archeota reminded me of the absolute beast of animation that Animatrix was. Specially the Renaissance part that disturb and depress me to this day (for the robots not for men). I discovered those were directed by Mahiro Maeda and apparently he worked on literally everything from 2 Evangelion angel designs to Nausicaa and (my personal Ghibli favorite) Porco Rosso, to keyframes in the anime bit in Kill Bill! And he also looks very different to other animation personalities which gives me hope:D But yeah that part of Animatrix is brilliantly made and despite depicting fictional events I categorise it as 'educational rather than entertaining darkness'.

I talked about it before I think but I do have this child hood-connected yearning for vast open sun lit spaces (the small settlement I grew up in would seem completely haunted on work days when I got to skip school and roam outside because everyone was at work) and then those Heisei Godzilla movies, specially the one with Mothra and Battra (not sure about the spelling) had similar big under blue sky sets. In the colored flashbacks I animated last year I tried to aim for a feeling like that. The first Kane & Lynch game also had a lot of concept art for these ghosted sunlit highways, like you can hear the silence and wind from the pictures:D

I saw that movie when I was at the end of my fourth year in elementary school over here in the states. I couldn’t really comprehend the main story but it did make me feel like I was in Europe again. I would like to go to where they filmed it some day. If I get to travel in my 20s I would like to go to continental Europe, so if I save up it should work out. I very much appreciate the shoutout. Now that the scene is more colored the emotion I talked about on Instagram is stronger. I think everyone deserved a forest to run through at some point, a field full of flowers to dance in. Underneath a blue sky where the sun is occasionally sheltered by roaming clouds.
