Twenty days ago, they were on a bus. There had been a horrific crash. Ten days ago, each had awakened in a strange room. Each found themselves attached to a strange metal and plastic construct shaped like an animal. Wires led from the constructs to computer consoles and to circlets with a glowing light on each of their foreheads. Try as they might, they could not move but, as the days went by, each acquired sensation in the construct they'd been attached to. Robots would come and go. They connected new IV bags. Sometimes, the wires were re-connected in a different configuration. Two days ago, the robots that had attended them had vanished after disconnecting most of the wires. A day had gone by as each of them discovered that the peculiar stasis that had kept them immobile slowly faded. Yesterday, they decided it was time to leave. The strange circlets, though, could not be removed. Someone suggested that the circlet allowed them to control the constructs. As no one knew the real answer, they decided that the circlets would have to stay. This morning, they explored the confines of the lab and discovered the door in a wall. It had taken hours to figure out the combination to open the door. They slowly made their way down a corridor. Finally, turning yet another corner, they caught sight of daylight at the end. One by one, each began the dash down the corridor as the klaxon announced they had been detected.
