The young couple had taken over the old family house only a few years back. No one else in the family wanted it because great-great-great Aunt Medina had died in it someplace maybe a century ago. It was supposed to be haunted with all manner of horrible spirits and things like that. It didn't help that it lacked nearly everything and had been abandoned for many years. They were happy, though. Both were DYI enthusiasts and had made great strides in making the ancient ruin into a safe and healthy house.
Renovations, even when the labour was free, weren't cheap and both of them worked at full-time jobs to make ends meet. One night, as Thomas made his way from the curb through the still creaky gate, he noticed something strange. Usually, Rene had most of the house lit up. Partly it was a welcome home (he did that when he arrived first, too) but mostly it was because there was so much to do around the old place and lights madding the inumerable tasks easier. Today, though, only the basement lights and one lone light in the attic shone. Puzzled, he let himself in. Rene had been given the day off because she'd put in massive amounts of overtime at her Quality Assurance job with the release of the latest application. This was definitely not her normal routine.
"I'm downstairs," came her voice from the newly refurbished family room. "I made the most amazing discovery!"
He hung up his jacket and went upstairs to get into his working clothes. As he came down the stairs from the upstairs bedrooms (only one was really usable at this point), her excited voice met his ears again.
"It's absolutely amazing! Aunt Medina was so amazing! I found an old trunk of hers in the attic. Took an hour to get it downstairs here! It's full of the most amazing antiques and stuff. Crazy only books, a huge gold mirror, a really crazy picture of Aunt Medina done up as some kind of Medusa, just wild."
He came around the corner to face the most amazing sight. A huge and very old chest was partially open in front of him, a gold mirror that couldn't possibly have come from the chest, dozens of old leather-bound books were stacked on a bookshelf that Rene had clearly installed to hold them. He then caught sight of a strangely glowing pattern on the rug. In the centre of that pattern was someone or something. He couldn't quite make it out - it was far too bright. As the brilliance faded, a string muscular rope or arm reached around his back and pulled him into the room.
He found himself in his wife's arms with a powerful snake tail wrapped around him. He discovered he was totally unable to move. She soon disrobed him and pressed his naked body to her body. As the light continued to fade, he felt something strange. She was sliding against him and her skin, as it slid across is stomach, felt scaled instead of smooth. He looked down in horror and then up at her face. His jaw dropped as he discovered her slitted eyes and as a forked tongue darted from between her sharply pointed teeth and fangs.
"What?" he managed.
"Medina's crazy old spell book," she indicated the book lying on the floor. "It really works!"
