Shadowhunters 2x16 REACTION; alec never misses.

first and foremost, Alec sticking up for himself is my new favorite thing, he's really coming into himself and writing this is about to make me cry just thinking about it so I'll stop now. as for this Jonathon debacle..... there is so much to unpack here. I don't even know where to start other than... this man is evil.

I am so with you here! He truly was so torn in this situation which made me so upset. he doesn't ever want to withhold information, especially from magnus, but unfortunately, he was in a tough spot!

This is the episode where Alec's value are out on display. We know from season 1 how he hates a lie. His father cheating on his mother is unforgivable and him insisting on his father telling him the truth is very Alec. You could see how uncomfortable he was when his father told him not to tell Magnus. Alec's integrity is very important to him and the downworld council where he insists on transparency and truth is very much in his character. The Clave is withholding so much information from the downworld and that is the cause of the breakdown of the trust with the downworld. Alec wants to fix that but he will have to fight the upper authorities of the Clave. He is such an excellent leader.

Jonathan did mention to Valentine that he got rid of him so he could keep "the other boy" so yes, I do believe that Jonathan was aware of Jace. It's just the timeline I am confused about. Every other shadowhunter knew both Valentine and Michael Wayland, so when Michael was dead, Valentine had to go on regular missions, then raise Jace as Michael and Jonathan as himself while Jocelyn was around... it's just weird that the adults wouldn't notice anything. Or at least that Jace was on his own most of the time. Also, did the real Michael have a kid since we know that Jace was actually a Herondale? Or was there even a real Wayland? :D I do believe it's not a mistake but maybe it was explained more in the books.

I’m not totally sure, but I believe Jonathan/Sebastian did known about Jace but Jace didn’t know about Jonathan. Also he only raised them until they were 10 so I imagine it wouldn’t be too difficult to fool them at that age by “going on missions” or other shadowhunter duties as an excuse. He obviously wasn’t a great father though so I wouldn’t be surprised if he left them alone a ton😭

It's not that bad. You're doing fine so far and I think you'll probably manage to go through this season without crying.

omg I so agree! I feel like we don't get enough Magnus out on his own/with others! I would love to see more of that for sure, even though I do love Malec, it would be even sweeter seeing Magnus thrive out and about as well! I do get where you're coming from and agree! I'm not her biggest fan for sure, I feel like she bulldozed simon here a little bit about his family dinner. it turned out alright, but he literally politely declined quite a bit and she wasn't having it which I don't appreciate, although I do like her a lot more than I initially did. you make such a good point, I feel like that may be a large plot hole- the whole valentine raising both boys... interesting. 🤔 I've been warned that the coming episodes are rough and I should have tissues handy-i'm not ready 🤣🩶

Alec really did slay this scene- I was feeling it all the way, he leaves me impressed always 🥹 I'm so excited to learn more about the Mortal Instruments!! 🩶

I think that scene where he's holding her has to be my favorite scene between the two of them so far- that's the only one so far where I've actually felt something directed towards them! and I'm with you, Alec has come so far 🥹 I can't believe I'm almost done this season! I remember thinking it would take me a while because there were more eps in this season but I've just been on a roll and loving it!! 🩶

Jesus, I have to work on brevity.

No Magnus is crime against humanity. Tsk, he was dearly missed. But at least it gives us the opportunity to see Alec outside of the whole Malec relationship (Alec as a confident leader is perfection). I just wish they would give Magnus a solid storyline that doesn't evolve around Alec. I mean yes, we got the whole torture & parents dying/killing trauma but it was sort of turned into Malec thing, how they deal with that together. Give Magnus a friend or something, I liked his dynamic with Simon, Raphael or Izzy, even with Clary but give him another warlock or someone who knew him before these kids came along. Heh, leave it to me to talk most about a character that didn't even appear :D I'm still on fence about Maia. I didn't forget she tried to kill first Jace (and smirking the whole time), then Clary, then she slept with Jace and now she's focused on Simon. I didn't like she said to his family that she's his girlfriend, making him lie. I mean, the situation wouldn't work if she said that they were just friends? She's just too... rash for my tastes. I'm not saying that I hate her or anything but right now even Clary is way above her in terms of characters I like. Speaking of Clary - jumping through that portal without any plan was typical season one Clary. What would they do if they did find Valentine? They had to know that he had help because he couldn't escape on his own. And Jonathan... for all his cleverness in fooling every shadowhunter he met, arranging Valentine's assassination attempt and then escape without anyone catching or suspecting him... he surely let himself be fooled by Valentine too easily. "My greatest creation"... please. He just admited that Jonathan was a fascinating experiment. Also, please someone explain to me where did Valentine find time to raise two boys simultaneously without them meeting each other and anyone finding out? He had job and I bet that he even socialized with other people when he pretended to be Michael Wayland. Where was Jonathan when Valentine was making Jace spaghetti, teaching him to play piano and killing his falcon? And vice versa? Or he didn't raise them simultaneously? But then they would be different age and all that "Jace is your brother, Clary" wouldn't work... Eh, something positive? I swear I don't hate this show :D I guess I liked the insight into Valentine and Jonathan's past, Simon is finally bonding with his family again and obviously Alec. I can't wait for the next couple of episodes, there are some of my favorite scenes even if they are bittersweet (or maybe because of?).

You'll find out about all the Mortal Instruments and what they can do in next ep. **also this ep there wasn't any Malec scenes, Alec slayed by being a fine man tt he is 🤚 and Simon was as always the cutest vampire ever 😍

Alec standing up for himself and really stepping into that leader position this episode was amazing. His growth throughout the series has been amazing! It's hard to imagine he was that closed off, no feeling type of person back in season one. While I will admit that I'm not the biggest fan of Jace and Clary (I just don't see chemistry in their scenes a lot of the time), their scene when he was able to bring her back was pretty cute. Then there's all the Jonathon stuff, this episode answers and give you more questions and I can't wait to watch how you react to it all unfolding. 4 episodes from season 3, you are zooming through this series!
