HAHAHAHAHA omg- I don't even remember saying that, but I stand by it 🤣

Ryann Rodkey

please, you calling Jonathan "you dirty little guy" is SO funny to me

I'm totally with you- I'm sure it hurts after opening up and all of that! I'm excited to learn more about Maia for sure. I'm with you, I was picking up on the love/obsession thing without the kiss- we could've even gone for the kiss but had Clary dodge it or something, we would've got the point 🤣 oh, I love this! that seems so sweet! the next episode was a great one!

Ryann Rodkey

oooooh that's so interesting! I have been hearing that it's a lot worse in the books so I'm very happy that they made it a lot tamer in the show otherwise... idk how I'd feel!! okay yes, these are all the points, especially that last one where Alec wasn't even supposed to know, and I really do think it would be worse to tell Magnus and tell him he wasn't allowed to tell anyone- thus forcing him to either lie to all of the people who depend on him, or tell them and ruin his relationship and trust with Alec/get Alec in trouble with the Clave! I'm so with you! I was like what is this child doing!? and how is he able to go on missions this young!? that seems like more of a liability lol 🤣

Ryann Rodkey

hmm interesting point for sure and totally see it from that point of view as well, but I do also think that it would be just as bad to tell Magnus and say, "but you're not allowed to tell anyone." that's putting him in a position as well to lie to all the warlocks and downworlders in general that depend on him, which is super unfair to Magnus as well. It's not fair to Alec, being the head of the institute if he would have told him in confidence and then Magnus told any downworlders and created panic. (not saying he would, but that is a potential viewpoint from Alec's side). Also, tbf, Alec himself wasn't even technically supposed to know this information and he's the head of the institute. If he said something and ANYTHING happened or got out, he'd be on the chopping block so fast right right, I'm hearing more about Jonathon in the books and also what the books were based on which is super interesting! Also, you did great! Totally understand you 😊

Also next episode!! I’m so excited for you to see!

Maia is a character you’ll get more backstory on and kind of get to see where she is coming from in terms of her past which she kind of glossed over quickly this episode. Alec was raised as a shadowhunter under the clave so there’s a lot that’s likely ingrained in him from throughout his life, so magnus is right in that Alec is using the “reasoning” of the clave even though the clave doesn’t REALLY care about protecting the downworlders and more about their own kind. Plus I think aside from alec not telling him it’s also so soon after magnus opened up to him which he hadn’t done with anyone so it probably stings a bit more I feel like it’s something that will become more clear as the show goes on but Jonathan/Sebastian has a very messed up psyche, especially in regards to love. between being raised by valentine + his upbringing in edom he definitely doesn’t understand familial/platonic love vs romantic love. But regardless they really didn’t need to show the kissing scene to make this understandable. Also fun fact there was a lot of rumors around this time about Kat (Clary) and Will (Sebastian) dating around this time, never confirmed or denied, but regardless of friends or dating their relationship was so adorable

Screw brevity, this is important :D Yes, Jonathan went there :) I honestly, believe that he doesn't know how to express his love/obsession with Clary. One could argue that he was raised by Valentine (experimented on) and then sent to hell. It was only recently that he got out so he probably hasn't a clue about socially acceptable behavior. BUT. It was just a couple of episodes before where he talked with Jace telling him that he thought Jace would go after Clary now that he knows she's not his sister. So Jonathan knows that it's not ok. I kind of wish the show sidestepped this whole incest issue. From what I understand the show corrected or glossed over some issues that were in the books. I didn't read them but from what I understand the whole Jace and Clary siblings issue was worse in the books (not as platonic as in the show). Or when Simon was getting closer to Maia and then he started going out with Clary, I think in the books he kind of played it on both sides at the same time (on the show they resolved it through the hallucinations filled party). So they could let Jonathan's obsession be ambiguous. I actually think it would be more creepy if they left it to our imagination. As for the Malec argument, I AM biased. But I think that even if I weren't I would be on Alec's side. First, he did NOT lie to Magnus (but yes, when at the dinner Magnus was going on about complete honesty Alec did look guilty, he knew that by not saying anything he was doing something Magnus would not approve of). Second, I honestly believe he would tell Magnus eventually, probably when he had more information (he didn't know who had the sword or where it was, what would be the point in scaring everyone?). Third and this is important, Alec clearly stated that he wants to keep their private relationship separate from their work. Alec is the head of the institute now, this was confidential information that even he wasn't supposed to know. We love Magnus but if someone was sharing top secrets with their new boyfriend (how long has it been? a month? two?) they should be fired. The problem is that the Clave wants to keep it secret. Alec should've pushed there but until then I do agree with him not telling anyone outside the institute (but boy, why tell Clary and Jace while the door was open?!). And Max... Great that he's so talented but he should first learn to obey if he's supposed to be a soldier (what type of missions do ten years old kids do? I'm honestly curious) and not snoop around (he should've learned his lesson when he was almost killed by that crazy seelie). If he did that maybe he would catch the bit about Jonathan being dangerous as well and wouldn't confront him alone :)

I totally get it that you’re biased when it comes to Alec)) as I’m also biased when it comes to Magnus)). But if we put it aside and analyze the “not telling the whole truth and it doesn’t mean that Alec lied or tried to protect Magnus” it’s a total bs. Magnus was there and supported Alec every step of the building the trust between downworlders and shadowhunters, making sure to show his trust and loyalty lays with Alec during cabinet meetings, even if other downworlders were still very skeptical. Bcs we know that clave and most shadowhunters always perceived downworlders as something beneath them or second class creatures. Alec should have told Magnus immediately, doesn’t he know his boyfriend? Magnus is the wisest and the most level-headed person, he is not someone who needs protection or shielding from unnecessary stress. He can handle everything but not betrayal and that’s exactly what Alec’s not telling him is for Magnus, bcs his trust in Alec was absolute and he was sure that was mutual. That is why it hurt Magnus so much. As for the incest theme in the show it is heavily implied (as it was in the books , and was one of the reasons I didn’t love them). Jonathan has very distorted understanding what love is and you’ll find out more about it in the future. ** also I’m sorry if sometimes my English comes out a little jumbled😅 it’s my 3rd language.. so yeah ,I hope you can figure out my thoughts ok)

I'm so with you! it was frustrating because we knew he was bad-but you're right, he's helped them every step of the way to their knowledge so it makes sense they wouldn't suspect him! the incest took me out. I can't lmao I agree with both sides as well- like I said at the end, I know I'm so biased towards Alec, so I may not be being fair, but I really see his point on not wanting to put Magnus in a position to have to lie to all of his Downworlder friends, but Magnus again, should have been given the option! Max is killing it. who would've thought he'd figure it out before everyone else. king. 🩶

This episode man, it was frustrating having Jonathan right there and no one noticing, in hindsight it's really realistic though. He saved Izzy, gave them information on Azazel, and has been 'helping' since. It's perfectly reasonable why they don't suspect him. I totally agree about the kiss, this show sadly does have this bad reputation when it comes to incest- Alec and Magnus's argument, I feel like I can see both sides. I love Alec but he really should have been honest with Magnus about the soul sword like he was with Jace, Izzy, and Clary. I do also see his point of view though, still wish he had let it be Magnus's decision. Also, Max tracking down Jonathan, iconic-
