Young Royals 3x5 REACTION; I'm so defeated.
Added 2024-05-08 05:44:04 +0000 UTC
guys..... I'm so upset. I'm starting to feel like this may not be the happy ending I'm wanting it to be and I'm not handling these thoughts well at all 🤣 if I don't get my happy ending of Wille and Simon together, I'm going to RIOT. anyway, we have Sara and Simon making up, Sara and Felice maybe making up? but then also some Sara and august bonding which is sure to end badly. Vincent still sucks. I was so happy to see Wille stick up for himself against his parents and really let them know how he was feeling. my heart is breaking though seeing that final scene between Simon and Wille. why oh why must it go like this!? 😭

I love how you put this! simon responds in the best way but Wille wasn't really ready to hear someone else say that Erik maybe made a mistake. he still needs to process that himself. even though simon wasn't blaming Erik or seeing him as a bad person. this episode really did hurt so bad 😭I loved that scene as well, it was like - FINALLY - we are letting it all out and making them listen or at least hear him. 🩶 so powerful!

omg, I always love the fun facts! totally agree with how you broke down the breakup and the reasons pretty much. it's really sad to see everything that simon loves or that defines him pretty much taken away or the joy has been taken out of the thing. the only thing he really has left is Wille and with everything Wille is going through, he's not giving simon the love that he needs either. this show honestly is going to be the death of me 🤣

every time I remember that this is Omar's first acting job, I'm flabbergasted. he's done such a brilliant job in every way! I totally agree, that cake scene really brought out Edvin's acting! they both are just incredible! 🩶

I couldn't have said this better myself! I feel like we see simon make a lot of sacrifices for the relationship to try to make it work and rarely see Wille doing that. it's another example of that power dynamic in play. he's the prince so it's 'harder' for him to make certain choices and easier to make others but that doesn't mean that simon should have to stick around for that either. simon is literally the greatest. 🩶

i love your reaction this episode was the hardest to watch and simon got the courage to say how he has been feeling its not easy for younger people to say how they are feelings and they both are feeling so much pain and its does hurt to see younger people go though this and also with wille he got so much presher on his plant that royal family and courts puting all this on him he only 17 year old its so much to deal with i just feel sorry for the both of them of what they are going though. and we hope we dont have to waite to long for the final episode and u might need to get your tiussuss ready

I loved Lisa’s cameo! So much fun 🤩 I wonder if Edvin and Omar knew she was going to do that, haha

the woman who is shown playing the guitar for willes birthday song is lisa, the creator of the show! of course she had to sneak herself one little cameo before the show ended haha. and she said that she was playing the role of wille's childhood nanny, so adorable!
i think everybodys comments basically say exactly what i could say about this episode. just brilliant acting from everyone. that outburst from wille at the end was 3 seasons in the making, he really said what needed to be said to them.

Since we’re all sobbing, some good things from this ep:
-Wille is happier with a simple sandwich from Simon than his own Rolex from his parents
-Best. Birthday. Wake up. Song. Ever.
-Felice painting Willie’s nails purple
-Linda calling Wille a “tremendous boy”
-Lisa (head writer) playing guitar as part of Wille’s birthday welcome committee at the palace
-Simon meeting Wille’s parents as his official boyfriend
-Wille’s parents being nice to him!
-Wille’s dad asking Simon about his music
-Simon saying Wille was helping him learn to read music (love the carryover from S1E3) and Wille looking shy & proud
-August not being at the birthday dinner
-Felice and Sara having a nice moment
-Simon and Sara reconciling!
-Sara passing her driving test
-Simon not getting poisoned by that piece of cake 🍰

I have commented so much on the beauty of the writing of this series but it may be the most perfectly structured story I have ever seen. As Lisa has said, "Everything in the script is there for a reason." In the end of this episode Simon says, "I can't do this anymore." That's what Wille said to Simon in season 1 when they break up after Erik's death. It's clear now that Simon and Wille can't be together unless Erik dies a second time. The thing that ties Wille to the Crown is his sense of duty to Erik's memory. Nothing else.

Wille is projecting hard in the conversation with Simon. Like he says, he hasn't come to terms with his own thoughts and feelings on the situation yet, and he is not ready to really take in any outside perspectives, reasonable as they may be. Simon responds in the very best way, but Wille is on the defensive against his own feelings - and, as he says to Felice, Simon did not know Erik, and Wille likely wants to protect the good in Erik, which Felice at least has witnessed.
Wille is spiraling and in his own head for the most part of the episode - projecting and lashing out - and I don't think he really "sees" Simon much at all. It is such a horrible situation because both are hurting so badly and need support from each other, but neither is in any position to give it. Wille cannot pull out of his situation enough for him to treat Simon fairly, and Simon cannot be expected to take on the shit show that is Wille's situation (which I also think is what his mom is getting at). Both my babies deserve the world and this episode hurts so damn good.
I LOVE the scene in which Wille rages against his parents. The tea needed to be spilled, and their love and care for him is so seriously stunted, the queen's breakdown aside as well, I think. They also haven't listened when he has tried to bring stuff up in the past. Wille is right - the scratch the surface or ignore or deny that anything is going on beneath it.

Apparently those pants are very fashionable in Sweden haha. I absolutely love that Simon is willing to dress up for the Queen, but on his own terms. That’s the Simon we know and love.

The acting in this show is STUNNING. Edvin is always brilliant, and Omar really outdid himself this season, truly. I refuse to believe this is first acting role ever (I know, him being a performer helps a ton). He’s said before that he feels so safe with Edvin, and it absolutely shows. I love the vulnerability that both of them aren’t afraid to show in their acting.

Oh Ryann, I was so scared for you to watch this one. I want to give you the biggest hug right now!
Btw, fun fact: Omar said in an interview that Edvin improvised throwing those gifts, which is why Simon looks so shook
Yep, Young Royals went there, they did THAT right before the series finale. I think one reason it hurts so bad (or makes some people angry at Simon) is because we’re not clear yet on exactly WHY Simon breaks up with Wille. It seems harsh, especially knowing Wille is dealing with all that, and on his birthday.
I think it helps to look at it from a season 3 whole perspective. Wille & Simon just want to love each other and live their lives, but they have both been dealing with so much $hit. Wille dealing with the pressure of being king a lot sooner than expected, living up to Erik’s legacy, his crippling anxiety, basically abandoned by his parents, having to be a messenger between the Royal Court & Simon, fearing for Simon’s safety, and now finding out his brother wasn’t perfect and may not approve of who he is. He finally blew up, is clearly not in a good place, and has a lot to figure out.
Simon has basically ceased to exist and doesn’t even feel safe in his own home. He constantly gets hate comments in public, on social media, and at home. He doesn’t feel comfortable in public or singing anymore, he can’t be outspoken or stand up for what he believes in without the Royal Court on his butt, and he might have to move bc the lives of his family are in danger. On top of all of that, he finally sees how toxic the Royal family is up close and personal. He doesn’t recognize the boy he fell in love with anymore, and he realized that this is bigger than him, bigger than THEM.
Simon loves Wille so much, he’s been trying to be there for him & put up with all the other $hit for his sake, but he finally sees how much the situation is hurting BOTH of them. So he does what imho is the bravest thing in the world, even though their hearts are breaking, and does what he feels in the right thing, the HEALTHY thing for them both, and let’s Wille go.
As you said, how TF are the writers going to wrap all this up in a way viewers will be satisfied??! This show is so unpredictable. I guess that’s the magic of Young Royals…
I’m just so glad you don’t have to wait a whole week to watch the finale like the rest of us did! Bring two boxes of tissues, a plate of cookies, emotional support plushie, indigestion meds, turn on your English CC, and get ready for a brilliant ride!
P.S. They literally have a fight in the music room in ep 5 of every single season. UGH! It’s a curse.

i think we can all agree that the acting of edvin and omar in the whole series is nothing short of incredible and possibly even moreso for omar, since it's his acting debut.
however, for me - the cake scene was THE BEST acting i've seen from edvin. it was perfectly executed.. you felt the emotion, the pain and when his dad pipes and he says "AND YOU!" it just made it even better.
also, omars acting in the final scene was incredible and sad as well and just shows how much he's grown in his craft over the course of the series.
as always, love your reactions! :)

Hey Ryann, just a heads up before you watch the final episode. I suggest you put the English CC (Closed Captions) up so you can see the song lyrics on the screen. There are about 5 songs in the finale that are storytelling and in my opinion really add to each scene.

Wilhelm could have made a stand by not doing the sit in with all the upper class bullies and stood with his boyfriend instead. But he chose to behave selfishly. Simon putting aside his principles and going back to support Wille by sitting with him is another example of Simon deleting himself for Wille. Reciprocal support from Wille would be good to see. Simon is constantly expected to see what being in Wille's position is like - but very rarely does Wille ask about or stand in support of Simon's values or class position at the school. He's quick to stand up to August about talking to Simon, which is easy because he has his own issues with August. Wish he'd do the same to Vincent more firmly than just calling him pathetic.
Really Sumon standing up to Wille and pushing back is what gives their relationship balance. It's why I enjoy their arguments. Conflict is important as they learn about each other and their needs. They should feel safe enough that they care enough about each other to be honest.
But Simon has decided that he doesn't want to fight Wille anymore to make Wille's life easier. He's seeing himself as another obstacle for Wille instead of as an equal partner, who can ask for and receive support just as much as they give it.

I have to go to bed but I wanted to see the cake scene reaction. You're right, there was no lie there. Wille finally said what had been building in him since even before Erik died. Worst birthday ever.

Also: those freakin Pyjama pants 🤣🤣🤣
Of course they’re not.
Almost every reactor I’ve watched said that 😂
It’s just Simon’s unique style. He’s actually also wearing them in S2 episode 5 and 6.
And I love that though he dresses up, still stays true to his own style.
