Pretty sure the point is that, split in half or not, Aang did kill it. And killed unnecessarily, out of rage (Momo was already safe at that point), which is completely against everything Aang has been until now. It's pretty clearly insinuated (and later confirmed) that the way of life the monks instilled in him, and largely the airbender philosophy itself, is about pacifism and respecting all life. Not to the extent of just allowing injustice and evil in the world, but still, definitely to the extent of seeing running away as an acceptable out and finding solutions other than direct confrontation. Even airbending itself represents that, what with all the fancy evasive footwork and it being the opposite of "face-it-head-on" earthbending. So when Aang kills an animal out of pure rage… that resonates. And it's the culmination of this episode showing Aang being more and more in stark contrast of who he has been for the entire show thus far. That's why I love this episode so much. It's so shocking, yet painfully understandable to see him act this way, the loss of Appa even having him take it out on his most beloved friends. It's always been clear he loves Appa, but this really drives the point home that the guy is the absolute #1 in his heart.

Its not that cactuses full of water are a myth, its that most arent and of the few that are most are also poisonous. So you REALLY have to know what cactus youre drinking.

Youll get comments saying that Aang split that buzzard wasp in half, he did not. If you zoom in he didnt. Just another false rumor the atla community loves to spread.
