^ I also think Tien is fighting with his morality, between following thru with Master Shen's order to kill Goku (and he doesn't want to), what Master Roshi told him about him being lead astray by his master, and just wanting to prove hes the strongest over Goku without help. Now knowing his master has no faith in his abilities or skills alone he's devastated. He going thru life revelations in a literal heated fight...with Goku no less. Needless to say, dude has got a lot on his mind. I would say he's blinded by his raging emotional battle within.

2024-01-07 17:39:35 +0000 UTCIt makes sense that tien would take so long to notice chiautzu's interference since he's so arrogant and desperately wants to believe he really is better than goku and can beat him all on his own. He sees what he wants to see. Also, keep in mind that goku's freezing up mid fight is much more obvious to us the audience than it is to tien as he's in the heat of the moment in battle.
