Maki got screwed in the manga-to-anime adaptation process. So many watchers immediately label her as an evil man-stealer in this episode, simply because her prior appearances - all of which show her as the comedically tragic "didn't confess in time and now he's dating her best friend meaning he's always around while she still can't get over him" loser she is - were turned into easy-to-miss little background gags. So when this moment comes and she goes nuts the moment she finally has someone to talk about it, instead of the catharsis the manga readers felt for the poor girl, the anime viewers simply see a jealous chick who wants to stab her friend in the back. Nevermind that even the anime puts an emphasis on Maki being extremely Kaguya-like, making it painfully obvious that Maki's "hateful" outbursts towards Kashiwagi are about as serious as Kaguya's "hateful" outbursts towards Fujiwara - purely emotional-in-the-moment stuff that doesn't actually impact the genuine bond that is there. Maki is Kaguya if Shirogane actually dated Fujiwara. Still likes her friend, still can't get over the guy and knows all too well she's at fault for having been a prideful idiot. And she's a riot.
