Saber Alter and Altering: Artoria Alter (or Saber Alter if you like) is not necessarily evil on her own end, because being an Alter in it's easiest definition just means a different aspect of a servant. For example: if Saber represents the good king who cares for the people, Saber Alter represents the tyrannical king who will force their will. If you thought to ask if Saber Alter was stronger then normal Saber - then the answer is muddy, in many ways she is weaker then normal Saber. It just that being constantly connected to the grail through Sakura allowed Saber Alter to spam Excalibur against Berserker and Rider.

2025-10-12 09:52:05 +0000 UTCAllright. Great reaction and glad you enjoyed the movies for what they were. As a fan of the original visual novel, the movie trilogy adaptation is pretty solid. There are things that were left out specially regarding the character development of Kirei, Illya and Zouken. But it was great overall. Now to answer some things: 1. Lets start with the Shirou vs Berserker "fight": As you thought, Berserker was not at full strenght. The only reason Shirou was able to defeat him was because at that point he only had one life left as per the movie. Saber Alter took 11 of his lives and then Sakura corrupted him making him even more mad Now, what Shirou did was copying Berserkers technique which is called NINE LIVES: SHOOTING THE HUNDRED HEADS. It is the technique he developed and used to kill the Hydra in one of his jobs. It is sadly not shown, but Shirou considered using UNLIMITED BLADE WORKS but he could not. This because Shirous own mental landscape differs greatly from Archers and thus, he was not able to use the arm to activate his Reality Marble as there was a contradiction. Even if they are the same being, their experiences differ greatly, and thus, their Reality Marbles will always be different and therefore incompatible So, instead of that, he Traced Berserkers weapon, analized it, and copied his technique. He can do this with any weapon, but it will always be weaker. Which is why Shirou was only able to use the basic form of the technique which consists in 9 strikes delivered almost simultaneously. And even then, Shirou was only able to deliver 8 strikes and the last one was donde outside of the technique 2. Saber Alter is basically her in tyrant mode. As she is corrupted all her negative emotions resurface and becomes someone who only seeks result. And being a servant, she only acts to the extent o the orders given to her. Basically, pure business. There isnt much more to her, really. Alter is just her cold rationality taking full control with a no nonsense disposition. Sakura also suplies her with infinite mana, which is why she can spam her mana burst. Which are the beams she used in all her fights. Normal Saber can use 1 or 2 of those but it is not cost-effective if you dont have infinite mana 3. What happened to Shirou: Yeah, this is the thing the movie suffers the most, because its not explained very well. Specially regarding the TRUE MAGIC. Which in the lore of Fate are 5 great powers that are impossible to replicate and can only be wielded by the original users or their pupils. And this is why mages always want to reach THE ROOT. If you reach it, you obtain a TRUE MAGIC. So far only 5 people in the history of the world of FATE have done it Heavens Feel is the 3rd TRUE MAGIC which is the materialization of the soul. It basically makes the person inmortal by elevating its soul to the next state of being. This is what Zouken wanted. To obtain true inmortality Rin used part of the 2nd TRUE MAGIC with the Jeweled Sword. The 2nd True Magic is the manipulation of parallel worlds. And the old man that had the jeweled sword is the one who wields it. And yeah, he is still pretty alive since he is basilly inmortal. He pops here and there ocasionally but overall is just an observer. Anyway, Illya used an imperfect form of the 3rd magic to separate Shirous soul from his body and put it in a container. After that, Rin and Sakura found a very special puppet made by a character from another work (the Garden of Sinners). This puppets are very special in the sense that they can work as a perfectly human body. With blood, organs and all of that. So, they put Shirous soul in this puppet and then his soul shaped it to the likeness of his original body and at that point he was basically human again. Of course, in the end its not his body, and it is explained that his magic circuits are worse now. But it really doesnt matter since at that point he basically retired form being a mage But yeah. Shirou was saved by Illya. His body is that of a puppet, but his soul enhanced by the the 3rd magic was able to transform it into a functional human body. 4. Characters who suffered in the adaptation: Kirei, Illya and Zouken suffered A LOT regarding their character development. Since Heavens Feel is the storyline that explains everything about their characters, it was sad to see their content being cut due to time constraints. On the other side, Sakuras development was great. I think I covered the most important things...
