Proposed change to tiers

So now I’ve been doing this a little while I’ve been thinking about how my tiers work.

The current system is that I work on various series which are tier specific, however I’ve found this a little constraining as, for example, sometimes I feel inspired to work on a certain thing but can’t because it would mean tiers are getting disproportionate amounts of work.

So I’d like to propose to you all a change to how my tiers will work, but I want to hear your thoughts.

I thought rather than working on exclusives, I would potentially open all series to all tiers - but release finished work on a percentage base depending on the pledge, with perks for higher tiers such as sketches and animations. I’ll outline my thinking below:

Futobasic - $3

Access to every third/fourth finished sequence

Futobeautiful - $5

Access to every other finished sequence

Sketches, animatics

Futofabulous - $10

Access to all sequences

Sketches, animatics

Fandoodles

Illustrations, one offs, sketch dumps

Voting in polls and community involvement

I intend to output a lot of work, and am always working on multiple projects concurrently, so there should be something going up every few days at least.

I am so grateful to each and every one of you for your support, and want to offer a variety of work to everyone whilst also enabling myself to earn enough money to create as much work as possible.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thank you for such strong feedback Travis I understand and will bear this in mind. Under my proposed system, lower tiers would effectively see more work and I would have more creative freedom. But if there is a strong negative reaction to it I will have to rethink.

I really don't like to say it in a public comment, but I'm not sure that I would continue to be a patron under this proposed change. I can't go up to the $10 tier, and I'm really not a fan of the idea of effectively paying for content which on my end is randomly distributed.

You make some interesting points here, but I feel like most of my top tier patrons would go down to $5 if I did this and I would lose out quite a bit of income, which would mean I couldn’t afford to keep up the output I can currently maintain. Under the model I have suggested bottom and middle tiers will see much more than the model I started out with, which ended up reserving most of my output for the top tier because of exclusives etc.

Hey Futo, just wanted to start off by saying welcome back and thanks for creating content again. I like the idea, but I think $5 is the most approachable price point for a lot of people and limiting those supporters to half your patreon-specific library might be undesirable for some. Based on models I've seen on other Patreons, I would consider eliminating the $3 tier (not sure how popular it is now), provide access to all finished sequences/sketches/animatics/illustrations/etc at the $5 level. For the $10 level, you can provide additional incentives through community involvement with polls, maybe provide 1-week to 2-week early access to your art, and access to your WIPs. If you want to provide an additional incentive maybe you could do a monthly raffle for a 3-stage commission at the $10 tier level, or you could offer discounts on commission prices. Again, love your work, so I hope I'm not coming off as ungrateful. Just wanted to provide some suggestions based on what I've seen on some of the other Patreons I've been subbed to previously :)

Sounds like a good idea to me, especially if you feel better about it.

I like your plan, which seems to give you creative freedom and also grants at least partial access to creative work, both completed and in-process. It's a dynamic tier schedule, which is less constraining for everyone involved.
