Your hate for Cersei blinds you completely Spartan. Cersei didn't send Jaime on a mission but the High Sparrow told Tommen to send him away, so Tommen did (season 6 ep. 7).
Cersei didn't anticipate Tommen death. He was the person she loved most in the world, that's why he made the Mountain to stop him to go to the Sept to stop him from dying with the other. Tommen's death was just karma, and she would never anticipate his death.
Btw yes she doesn't do what she plans herself so what ? That argument is irrelevant. That's what rulers do : they command, they plan, and other do what they want. Did you ever reproach to Tyrion that he wasn't fighting in his trials by combat ? No. Varys always used the child to get informations, to poison Daenerys. Remember in Season 3, when a child tried to kill Daenerys and Ser Barristan saved her, who do you think send the child ? I don't remember what you said back there, but did you reproach to Varys to use child to try to kill Dany ? I don't think so.
As for Tommen, i kinda liked him but he was too weak and naive. He failed and betrayed her mother. He asked her mother to help him to become stronger like her, but instead of helping her, he was spending time with the high sparrow, even forbad trial by combat. What would happen to Cersei without the trial by combat ? She would have been sentenced to death or another hard punishment (who knows). And ofc, she would never let herself killed by them. She didn't have any other choice than to do this (or i don't see what she could do).
I agree that it's because of Cersei that all the shit with the High sparrow happened, she did a terrible mistake out of hatred for the tyrell. So it's her fault, but after what the HS did to Cersei and her wife, he could woke up a little bit and tried to stop this nonsense, but instead he was just letting herself manipulated by that zelot. He was like Baelor I, who starved himself to death because of that religion.
Anyway, don't let your hate for Cersei blinds you !

Okay first of all don't taint their reaction before going in with a comment like this. And if you haven't gone back and tried to really watch them again you are missing so much. The show is still so good through the last 2 seasons. watch again and try to catch all the call backs, and just ignore the time jumps so that we can see the big events. GOT is the best show I have ever seen by far, all seasons included

While it's possible that he raped her, the scene was not at all staged to give that impression. And I'm sure it's on purpose. By then, DnD had taken a lot of flak for being cavalier with this sort of stuff.
I'm not saying the Mountain didn't rape the Septa. But there is literally zero indication in the scene that he did.
But of course when you leave a tied up woman with a male monster with instructions to torture her, anything is possible.

@Mark Laniel I would say the full credit should've gone to Sansa. Jon and his army was done but Sansa knew the game Ramsay was playing, played the game and won. And everyone in that room witnessed it first hand (unlike what Arya did).

The #1 best episode of Game of Thrones. P.S. Cersi had the biggest come up ever. At the start of the episode, she's on trial for HER LIFE. And at the end of the episode, she's being crowned the first woman ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Damn.

Ned said a lot of things on this subject. He chose his words carefully so as not to literally lie to Jon. The writers also chose their words carefully.
Irony works in subtle ways. Lady Mormont cited Nedâs blood as the justification for Jonâs kingship as his male heir. Without a direct male heir Sansaâs claim to the crown could be championed by some. Her direct descent in contrast to Jonâs could have made her another âQueen who never was.â Thereâs a reason the writers place Jonâs acclamation as king immediately after we learn that Jon is not Nedâs son.
Daniel Siegel
2023-05-26 23:14:45 +0000 UTC
Just like the writers, I chose my words carefullyâ Jon LITERALLY has Lyannaâs blood. Just like Jon does not literally deserve the sole credit for avenging the Red Wedding, which is why I brought this up in the first placeâ as a demonstration that the writers are aware of the irony of what is happening and of the words that the characters speak.

If you remember way back in season 2 I believe, Bran tells the story of the King who invited a family into his home and under his protection then had them killed. He was then baked into a pie. Huge foreshadowing for both the Red Wedding and Frey's death.

Ned Starks blood is the same blood that ran through Lyanna the same blood that ran through his father. Stark blood. Thatâs not the same as saying that Jon was his son. Ned told Jon âYou may not have my name but you have my blood.â

Maybe thatâs meant to be a bit ironic for viewersâ eyes. We just saw Arya kill Frey but the people at Winterfell donât know about that. Itâs like the irony of Lady Mormont specifically saying âNed Starkâs blood runs through his veins.â Only we know that that is literally not true.
Also, it points to how Sansaâs role in winning the battle is being overlooked, perhaps out of implicit sexism. Fuel to stoke the grievance that Littlefinger was trying to exploit in his conversation in the godswood with Sansa, and the look he gave her when they were cheering Jon.

Just in reference you both mentioning that you didnât think Little Finger wants the throne. Recall back to season 3 in the episode: The Climb, where he talks about how chaos is a ladder and talking about the climb to the top. Varys when talking to little finger whilst little finger is admiring the chair and saying how it âhas a certain appealâ even says âshame you had to settle for your 2nd choiceâ Then there is the S1 Ep7 where little finger is asked by Ros âwhat is it that you wantâ and he replies âeverythingâ. I also believe he directly and indirectly admits it or pretty much. Hope this helps. Iâve watched so many times. Loving the vids btw

I think Cersei switching from flowing gowns to spiky leather armor-like dresses just illustrated that she was done being a lady of the court and was now Queen Bitch. I donât think she expected Tommen to die that day, but she planned to be his puppetmaster from that day forward, now with the High Sparrow and Margery dead.

I've not seen anyone comment this yet so about Walder Frey's Iconic death, its more well written and foreshadowing than you think. After the Red wedding in 3x10 Bran tells a story about the "rat cook" which is about a kings son who got carved/killed and later served in the food to the king. The gods gets angry not only for murder or for serving the son to him, the reason being "He killed a guest beneath his roof. That is something the gods cant forgive". Foreshadowing that Walder frey will get his poetic justice when Arya feeds him his sons (just like the story Bran told) before killing him. I recommend rewatching that scene in the s3 finale it will make you appreciate the writing even more

Pudgey giggling and insinuating that Ned and Lyanna fucked was killing me. She has been corrupted by GoT so much that she doesn't even give it a second thought. Glad they figured it out that it was Rhaeger eventually tho, was worried they still wouldn't understand after that scene.

So do you guys remember the story Bran told about Rat Cook who broke guest right and served a king his sons in a pie? That was foreshadowing what Arya would do all the way back seasons ago. The gods cursed him by turning him into a rat not because he killed the sons but because he broke guest right.

I donât think littlefinger wanting the throne is that surprising. I think itâs been established that heâs very secretive, ambitious, opportunistic, and operates in the shadows. I believe he a part of him always wanted the throne, but I doubt he would ever admit that out loud given his position. I think whatâs changed is as pudgey said itâs becoming more and more tangible for him, and confiding this to Sansa is like an invitation for her to help him and be by his side. Almost tempting her to be as ambitious as he is.

2023-05-25 13:42:55 +0000 UTC
Just want to add that you guys keep on mentioning Cerseiâs outfit as if she planned on Tommen dying and ascending to throne, but I donât think all of that happened in one day. I donât think Cersei anticipated Tommen was going to kill himself and âdressed for the occasionâ. I believe itâs implied that a decent amount of time passed between Tommen dying and her being crowned, since we see a whole bunch of other scenes happen between that. I think she just happens to wear that same outfit more often now.

I hated Cersei too, however I hated the High Sparrow more. He was a hypocrite who said he didnât love power, but everything he did showed that he secretly did. He loved controlling other people and seemed more obsessed with their sex lives than truly loving his neighbor. He got what he deserved, but Maergery didnât and Loras didnât and Tywinâs brother didnât. Cersei destroyed everyone to get her revenge and by that she killed her own son. In the end her love for power and vengeance was greater than the love for her children. This episode was epic, and finally a lot of wins for House Stark! You should watch this fan vid âThe White Wolf,â I think youâd love it because it goes through all the epic moments of Jon and doesnât go past season 6. Might speak to some of your theories as well.

Great reaction guys, it's been so fun rewatching Game of Thrones with you and listening to your theories. I've been waiting for your reaction to this episode especially the Lyanna scene, that is such a big reveal. What Lyanna said to Ned is "Robert will kill him, you have to protect him", talking about the baby. What great casting for the baby by the way, right from the start Jon Snow looked so done with eveything lol.

Ok I lied- one last comment about the piano music. This was the first time piano was used by Ramin Djawadi in the whole franchise. I believe he uses it a bit more often in HotD, but in GoT any time you hear piano, thatâs when you need to sit up and pay attention. Itâs so so rare in the score.

The Jon Snow Mother reveal in the season finale is probably the greatest tv/cinema moment of my life. The âtower of joyâ scene theories are spawned from literally the first few hundred pages of the first book that came out in 1996 and started to make its way onto the internet not that long after. I read the first book in 2000 and on my second read in 2001 became more convinced in the theory of Lyanna being his mother and him being her bastard and not Neds. So while you got to binge watch it, and the other people talk about waiting in between a season to find something outâŚ
I literally waited HALF OF MY ENTIRE LIFE for that to be confirmed. Literally 15 freakin years! Words canât explain the feelings and goosebumps I got.
First consider Neds sacrifice. He was fighting a war because Rhaegar kidnapped his sister. He finds her screaming bloody in a tower after killing the greatest Targeryan soldier alive in Sir Arthur Dayne and she makes him promise to protect her bastard baby because she knew Robert would kill him because he was Rhaegars bastard. Ned loved his sister SOOOO MUCH that as she died he without question protected that child by giving up his HONOR and the only other person who knew was Howland Reed and Ned took that shame to the grave without ever saying a word to anyone not even Catelyn. Thatâs UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. and if you recall his last words to Jon as he parted south and Jon for the wall âthe next time we meet I will tell you about your motherâŚâ soul crushing
Second is the Jonâs parentage aspect. Rhaegar was married and kidnapped and raped Lyana. But you guys are right on with the questions like even though heâs a bastard heâs still part Targeryan so what does that mean as far as dragons or overall to the story.
I knew from the second the trailer dropped for season 6 and you get a seconds long glance at a Targeryan crest on the armor they were going to do the scene. They then tease us with brans walk to the stairs in episode 2 and then made us wait a whole 8 weeks for the finale to really confirm it.

Shoutout to Margeary for picking up instantly what was happening, and shoutout to the idiot High Sparrow for keeping anyone from surviving because of his stupidity. (I know you said in the episode they wouldn't have had time to escape given the blast radius, but honestly we don't really know that, there might be a lot of ellypses in the scene and thus there was actually more time, and also if the writers wanted some people to have time to escape, they just could have written it so it was possible xD). So yeah well done Margeary for proving again that you're very smart, and the High Sparrow for proving that his gods didn't protect him ^^.
Sorry Margeary, you had a good run, definitely my favorite character (and house overall), but sadly it was a little too optimistic of me to hope for one of the least violent house to survive in such a cruel world as GoT's.

Don't listen to the other comments, basically everything you said about Cersei is true. And even if it weren't you're allowed to have an emotional reaction in the heat of the moment, after all no one can deny without hypocrisy that Cersei is a horrible person.
Yes she did nothing, Qyburn created the mountain to protect her, and he and the little birds probably set up the wildfire too. She almost never does the dirty work herself, she always abuses the power she already has.
You're also right that all of her actions resulted in the death of her children, as well as often her own undoing, that's the only confort I can find in this unraveling of the story.
To me this scene is both excellent but also the beginning of inconsistancies and plotholes in GoT. Honestly because of the rule of cool I'm inclined to allow the Sept's explosion, but you've porbably heard how S7 and S8 are... More controversial. Anyway I still think it'll be a fun ride and can't wait for your next reactions.

You guys this reaction is about to make my whole week! The music score this episode was wild considering we never had a Piano sequence, that by itself was a major indicator of how interesting that opening scene will be and every scene to follow! Love you guys about to watch. EXCITING stuff.

I feel like I am obligated to mention how much Ramin Djawadi killing it. The music in this episode is phenomenal. That somber piano score at the beginning is beautiful and amazing. When I first watched it, it completely distracted me, had to go back to enjoy the visuals ( the bell landing on those two people was unlucky as F ). He will really start flexing his skill from here on out.

It's not that bad. There could've been weeks/months between the Dorne scene and the ending.

Your bias towards Cersei is unbelievable! Isn't she doing exactly the same that was done to her at the end of the last season?! Yet she is the evil one! Yeah sure!

Yeah. I donât get that argument from Spartan. I mean he wouldnât say Olenna or Tywin do nothing just because they donât fight

That was Old Town and that was the High Tower. Thats were the Hightowers are from. âThe beacon on the High Tower, do you know what colour it glows when Oltdown calls its banners to war? Green.â

Your hate for Cersie is unreal. Of course, she did not anticipate Tommen's death. She sent Mountain, her personal bodyguard, the strongest person she knows to protect Tommen instead of having him by her side in case something goes sideways. Also, even Dany does not do her dirty work herself, yet I never see any of you complaining about that. The people in power never really do their dirty work, even in today's age, with a few exceptions, of course, that's just how it is.

Yes she was with Rhaegar before this, Lyanna and Rhaegar had a son who is Jonnnnnnn so technically he is a bastard but of a targarean Prince but Ned took him in because he loved his sister and he knew that Robert will kill the boy so he said that it was his bastard. The honourable Ned Stark never cheated on his wife, he lied for his sister, which is why when he was asked about the woman in season 1 you can see he is hesitating. In Season 1 episode 2 Jon asks Ned if his Mother knows about him. Ned says that the next time he sees him he will talk about his mother but they never meet after that. If you rewatch the show there are many Easter eggs, because Jon was under Maester Aemon a lot and Maester Aemon also told him that a Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing, which kind of referred to both of them as well because they were not alone but they never knew that they are family.
