As I recall the novel shows they were hiding the 8th girl but they still mentioned training with all of them while hiding the extra girl. They adapted one volume in 3 episodes I hear which does seem rushed or they had to make some cuts and decisions to show the twist better

As I tried to explain in spoiler free terms in the comments on your Danmachi post. Because having suddenly a eight girl pop out from nowhere. Did push my suspend of believability as that is not how the storytelling of the show have been presented so far. Also the fact that rather then developing one of the other of the six girls. With their unique ability, and a place in the spotlight. Just like Lily got in the first episode, they instead did chose to introduce a new random girl. Saying that she has been a part of the team, and telling us about her unique ability. That just feel a bit bad towards to other girls honestly
