They aren't videos related to any of the games but I definitely recommend reacting to "The Breathtaking World Of One Piece" by Strawhat V, Super Eyepatch Wolf's videos "The Appeal of One Piece: Where to Start" and "Why You Should Watch/ Read One Piece." Those are pretty spoiler free and give you different ideas on why the story is worth jumping in to.

TFS captured this transformation excellently, no talking during the flying bird part like the US dub. Piccolo was right though, Goku understand everything leading up to this point but failed to understand Gohan. His son has been fighting since he was four, but out of necessity never enjoyment.

DB in general is a meh at best anime regardless of the version if you go back and look at it as an adult who is familiar with anime, but all I know is as a child when Gohan went SSJ2, that figuratively set my school on fire with all of the hype we had. I talk to my friends nowadays and we all remember that scene fondly, making it ICONIC. Your complaints about the pre-Kai dubs are warranted and correct, and TFS improved on 99.99% of DBZ as a whole, but that doesn't take away from how awesome the scenes were to watch as a kid for the first time. Brice Armstrong KILLED that final monologue talking about how all of Gohan's adventures have built up to that very moment, and watching it now still gives me chills.

AOT HAS 150 EPISODES BUT ITS IN A BIG CLIMAX THAT I THINK HAPPENS IN THE FALL BUT THERE MIGHT BR ANOTHER EPISODE THAT COMES OUT LATER BBUT IM NOT SURE HOW THEY ARE CUTTING IT UP. TANYA IS ONLY 12-13 EPISODE BUT ITS A CRAZY RIDE. LOVE THE CONTENT AND YOU GOT A SHOUT OUT FROM TFS IN THEIR MEW DIRECTOR COMMENTARY

There is a chronic problem in all of the pre-kai dubs where the directors seem to think the audience is stupid and can't tell what the character is thinking without five minutes of inner monologue. So many scenes are absolutely butchered by either having the character talk while they're off screen (so you can't see that their lips aren't moving) or having them talk to themselves inside their head. Trunks finding Gohan's body: butchered. The silence of the Japanese version has emotion weight that was clearly beyond the scope of an American director. Gohan's rage moment: Cluttered with a length, unnecessary inner monologue that was totally needless and robbed the scene of gravitas. Vegeta's rage upon seeing Trunk's dead: Butchered again. Because "gotta have a monologue to fill time!". TFS did a much better job; even having the background sound fade away into white noise, and you didn't NEED Vegeta's voice actor to spoon feed you what the character was thinking at the time.

As a non american I only ever saw ridicule for the US dub version in general, but particularly for that scene, which in the american version is sorta ruined with lots of unecessary inner dialogue and such, instead of just letting the imagery and music do the talking. TFS even used an english cover version of the song that plays in the japanese original, because it is so iconic

2023-04-10 00:53:31 +0000 UTCThat final scene in the dubbed version is considered one of the best scenes in all of the Dragon Ball Universe (along with Goku turning Super Saiyan for the first time and another event that you'll see once you get to the next saga), so it was very impressive for TFS to even match the epicness of this moment, and possibly even surpass what the dubbed version did.

There's a channel called FourStarBento, where two of the TFS team are doing a commentary series over DBZA, where they rewatch the series and talk about everything that went in to making it. Their most recent one, for Episode 37, came out yesterday. One bit of it had KaiserNeko commenting on that he loves seeing reactors' reactions to the line, while showing some of those reactions, including yours. At 18:24 in that video is where it shows up.

2023-04-09 17:05:12 +0000 UTCMany moons ago, on youtube, I said that Goku isn't actually the main character of DBZ. Gohan is. The entire story up to the Cell Saga is basically Gohan's coming of age story and inheriting the mantle of earth's hero from his father. Abridged even lampshades this a lot by pointing out that Goku is barely around. It's all about Gohan, for the most part. He's the main point of view character for most of the series. The song that pays at the end there is called "Spirit vs Spirit". None of the English dubs use it, but it is the song that was used in the Japanese version of this scene. TFS made their own English translation of it to use in the scene, and it's honestly one of the best dubbed versions Gohan's transformation.

Huge credit goes to Lawrence "MasakoX" Simpson and Curtis "Takahata101" Arnott, their performances as Gohan and Cell respectively for this whole episode is super stellar. Also shoutout to Remix (whose name I've forgotten and apologize for that) for his incredible speech as 16. Also, I want to remphasize that there was a 1 year gap between last episode and this one. Thankfully, all 3 parts were released live on stream 3 Fridays in a row, so the wait wasn't long from here. But yeah, that year long wait was totally worth it. Also also (I just keep thinking of things to add), the ending to this part was completely untouched. They got a singer to do a cover of Unmei no Hi, or Day of Fate in English, and let the transformation scene play out exactly as it did in the original Japanese anime.
