You get to see a lot more of Hiccup and Astrid's journey as a couple in the shows. Fun fact: In the HTTYD books Snotlout (the guy hitting on Hiccup's mom) is Hiccup's cousin on his dad's side so he would have been next in line for chief after Hiccup. They were going to add that family tie in the movies but they didn't get a chance (so I've heard).

There looked to be a live action remake in the works for 2025, we'll see how that goes. If you two want to see more of the Night Lights, yes that's the real name for Toothless and the Lightfury's kids, check out: How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming, fun little holiday short. As others have mention there are a few TV series that take place between the 1st and 2nd movies, fun way to showcase all the other types of dragons. Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge. There one more show Dragons: The Nine Realms, I haven't seen it yet. This series is set in the modern world, 1,300 years after the events of the movies. It follows a group of misfit kids, brought by their parents to a huge fissure caused by a comet, who uncover the truth about dragons and where they've been.
