RWBY Volume 7 Episode 13 Reaction

Finale time!

Comments

That’s the thing about Neo. Up to this point in the show, she’s never lost a fight. Neo vs Yang on the train: Neo won that without a doubt. Neo vs Ruby (with help from Torchwick): I’d say this was a DNF due to Ruby using her umbrella to take her out of the fight, Ruby was losing that battle. Neo vs Cinder: DNF, although that was Cinder without using her Maiden powers, so who knows how that fight would’ve finished. Then we have Neo vs ORNJ: Neo beat them all AND managed to get the relic. Imagine her with a Maiden power.

😇 It says Everything is Fucked. Which is a book we recommend that is a a sequel to The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck. Despite the vulgarity of the titles, the books are really good. 🤗

Bethany and Ken

One thing that always sticks out to me in this episode is how Penny becomes a Madin. Out off all the mains and successors of the madins Penny is the only one that inherited it naturally up until this point. Pyrrha was going to inherit it unnaturally through fusing souls & auras, Cinder split and killed the Fall Maid, and Raven killed the spring. Idk but this really shows Penny as a person and how she approaches things differently

"Good job Robyn." Exactly. Without her, Tyrian doesn't get the chance to escape.

I was wondering about that, but unfortunately that means that if Penny was destroyed again like she was at Beacon, the maiden powers would no longer be hers if she was rebuilt.

Am I seeing things or does Bethany's bracelet say "fuck"? lol

Also love Oz's speech, one of the songs for this volume expands/goes a long with it too. And, I think your Penny-maiden theory, might have been Ironwood's eventual plan.

Alex Smith

which is true and raises an interesting point that while Pietra used his aura to create Penny's, and he is male, the maiden power still recognizes Penny as eligible, meaning that its very likely that once given, it changed and refromed into a new aura. even though they have the same aura color, Penny's is her own.

My jaw was definitely on the floor after this finale! Buckle up, because in volume 8 they definitely cranked up the intensity to 11!

The "Fear" monologue is about a few things. One of them is how Oscar feels about the pending attack by Salem and how to deal with it, as well as Ironwood succumbing to his paranoia and becoming his own worst enemy, and finally Oscar being the boy who defies fear and decides that "We need a plan to defeat fear incarnate itself." I think the speech also relates to Ruby and her withholding information to Ironwood and how she should have been more forward with him. I have a take on the 7 deadly sins where Fear is the 8th one, at least in this series. There is a take on it called despondness, which is almost akin to indifference to the consequences of anything. Ironwood has embraced it and Salem embodies it. We saw in volume 6 that Salem did not care about consequences of her actions and as an immortal being, she could not care less who dies or lives as long as her goals are met. But Salem is here... And she has brought with her Grimmagedon! The real Infinity War has begun! Looking forward to V8 reactions! Edit: Penny was able to obtain the maiden powers because she has part of a soul aka her maker. This created a lot of debates on how this would work, but my conclusion was that, Penny is her own being, seperate from Pietro, ergo she can receive the power and any further digging into it is just nonsense being made for the sake of argument. It was kind of apparent that Penny would get the maiden powers, I wanna say towards the latter end of the volume. Hell, we spent part of V3, making the clear statement that the powers of maidens are bound to an aura of a person when Pyrrha was supposed to get Amber's Fall Maiden power. Penny is not just an android as she has the aura of a living person that later formed it's own identity.

Penny and Cinder VA did such a good job with their vocal performance. Penny's scream when Cinder kick an explosive sword to her face. Cinder's angry and lust for power after she gets her arm cut off. You can see Cinder's struggling for the first time and she's not having it. Their fight scene is one my top favorite. Ozpin's speech was so powerful, I love how he explained who we are when we're afraid and that gave me chills.

Next week will probably be the Volume 7 Soundtrack if they follow the same pattern as previous volumes.

Penny becoming the Maiden was unexpected but she does have an aura and we know the power transfers seemingly via aura (from Season 3). It's so sad when we see Qrow cradling Clover's bloodstained token, and Robin just sympathetically puts her hand on his shoulder. Despite typically being overlooked, Robin is wise, compassionate, and formidable. Like Bethany said, Winter has a code and integrity. She seems to wrestle and suffer with her choices in a way Ironwood doesn't necessarily convey for his own. Here, her life's purpose (becoming the Winter Maiden) is completely derailed, but despite this devastating disappointment, she never flinches from protecting Penny and Fria from Cinder because she is dedicated to saving Remnant. While she is still working some things out, no one can challenge her integrity to her code or her willingness to sacrifice herself for Remnant. I really adore the lovely Fria, I'd totally watch a show about her younger years. Even when struggling with some form of dementia/memory loss, her inner beauty continues to shine through -- clarity of purpose, self-peace, she knows what she needs to do, and she just brushes Cinder away like she is a fly. The pacing, cutting, and facial expressions are just spot on in this episode. I love it when Ruby arrives and Cinder's first moment of rage transforms into sheer terror before she is forced to flee. Or that moment when Neo pretends to be Nora and crushes Ren's heart. There are so many emotions in this episode, unfolding in real time, some complex, and typically captured in nuance. Aside from relying on her rage, power, and entitlement, Cinder plays this fight pretty well. When she doesn't win quickly, she takes the fight to the air which leaves Winter at a disadvantage and almost earns her the victory -- except Fria is not a passive victim. Cinder's bad assumptions based on her prejudices often undermine her formidable power; she has been consistently losing since her first victory at Beacon. Her entitlement leads her to disregard Neo and her supporters, which could cost her. Ironwood, Weiss, Winter, Oscar, and Penny were my favorite character arcs this season. Oscar has definitely come into his own, leading to his confrontation with James and, "Stop -- all I want to know is how we save Atlas next." Neo's always a joy to watch. And then there is Salem, who is so terrifying in James' office and then FINALLY shows up in full force in the final frames. Just an amazing cap to the season. *chef's kiss

One of the best soundtrucks let's go

Bethany is exactly right, they thought the shot of Salem spoke for itself and a post-credits would get in the way.

Loved Oz speech. Since the reveal about him and his subsequently goin away I've been a bit iffy with him but i still admire the fact that even though he has no idea how to destroy Salem he still never gave up and kept trying to solve this through the ages. Although with questionable methods, i can see why he did it that way. Great Reaction as always!

Epico. Y lo que se viene en el V8... Aún más épico 😌 Auténtico cine 👌🏻👌🏻🚬 Penny Is The Winter Maiden 🩵🩵🩵 Saludos 🇲🇽

As for Maiden lore - Oz originally had all of the Maiden's magic as his. After he met the four girls who became the first Maiden, he sacrificed a large portion of his power to them and split his "elemental" magic between them. Since then, the power has passed down to a young woman who is either a) the last person in the thoughts of the current Maiden or b) a random woman if the Maiden doesn't think of someone specific or thinks of someone who is not a woman. Penny has been foreshadowed to be Ironwood's plan for a "lasting" Maiden for some time, I think. It was because of her creation - Pietro being able to give her part of his own aura - that gave Atlas the technology to transfer aura between people, which was what they had been going to do with Amber and Pyrrha back in Vol 3, and what they were going to do with Fria and Winter this volume. Penny's not human, but she does have a soul of sorts because she has part of Pietro's aura, and they did explain that the Maiden powers are attached to the aura. So, Penny was able to become the new Winter Maiden because she has an aura. She can be destroyed, yes, but we don't know what happens to her aura when that happens. It was implied about halfway through this volume that Pietro had to give a second portion of his aura in order to recreate her because he said if she's destroyed again, he won't be able to bring her back a third time. She's definitely more durable than a human and can survive things that humans may not be able to, but we saw that she is capable of "dying". I would imagine if she was destroyed again, the same thing would happen - she'd either have to think of a woman she wants to pass the power to, or the power would go to someone random. Cinder is awful, but that makes her a good villain. She had an interesting line when she was fighting Winter - she said "You Atlas elites think that hoarding power means you'll keep it forever, but it only makes the rest of us hungrier. And I refuse to starve." Keep that in mind when we see Cinder again. Oz's speech about fear was great. Good to have him back. Oscar was another standout in this chapter for me. The way he took it upon himself to face down Ironwood, and then his response at the end "Stop. All I want to know is how we're going to save Atlas next." The green light - if you recall - is actually something Ozpin did in Vol 3 when fighting Cinder in the vault, so it's magic, not Oscar's Semblance - a bubble shield of some kind. We still don't know what Oscar's Semblance is, but it seems he is beginning to tap into what magic Oz has left.

Fria: I don't know what day it is but I know a punk when I see one.

Lucifer_Crowe

The maiden power connects to their aura, which Pietro had to replace when he rebuilt Penny.
