2024-06-30 16:33:50 +0000 UTCThanks for explaining that Nora and Ren bit, and for the callback to Season 2. Forgot he literally said that

2024-06-30 16:32:58 +0000 UTC48:06 "I feel like if it came down to it, and Ironwood killed everyone on both sides except for one person on his side. He'd do it." The thing is, Ironwood literally said he would do exactly that. When he was holding Watts over the lava he said, "I will sarifice whatever it takes to stop her".

2024-06-30 07:02:38 +0000 UTCThey're three songs that make me cry Cold, Forever Fall, and a song from Volume 8.

2024-06-29 23:19:43 +0000 UTCTime for Volume 8. This volume has the art of intense cliffhangers down to a science. It is intense and dark for like...basically the entire volume. And this may be a little early to mention but it's not really a spoiler because the show itself actually warns viewers: The later half of 8 and most of 9 shouldn't be viewed by anyone with self destructive mental health. They really are not kidding around.

2024-06-29 18:01:34 +0000 UTCJust gotta say -- thanks for breaking my heart in the first five minutes lol. [Pyrrha was my favorite, I named one of my cats after her :D .] Aside from how beautifully Casey handles the vocals, it was genius to expand this song from the Jaune/Pyrrha leitmotifs from Seasons 2-3; the Forever Fall episodes (S1) are where Pyrrha starts training Jaune. -- My top favorites in order: Fear, Trust Love, Touch the Sky, Celebrate. There's some nice variety among song styles for Season 7, I think overall it's one of the most solid. I think "Trust Love" might be the tightest of all the season themes. (Every time that high note in the middle happens, I always can see Penny beaming in my head!) The lyrics are even better when you see them. "Touch the Sky" is uplifting and the ending sequence is one of my favorites. Jeff Williams is really enjoying himself on the ad lib solos. I appreciated that the different proposals to stopping Salem led to a deep schism among the good guys as to what should be done. "Hero" describes Ironwood fairly, and no one doubts James' tenacity and courage; the question here is really, what sacrifices need to be made, and who decides who will be making those sacrifices? (I agree with Ken that Ironwood would consider it a victory if only ONE person outlasted Salem and she failed -- even if the one person is not him. Everything and everyone is expendable to stop Salem. Bethany also mentions the use of "children" to describe Ruby in this song -- and I hated how the Ace-Ops called them all "kids" this season in order to dismiss them. Great insight that Ironwood's respect dropped when they didn't recognize his absolute authority.) I like Ken's R-rated upgrade to "War" lol. it was slick how they slipped the name of Casey's prog metal band (OK Goodnight) into the "Celebrate" lyrics. :D I really like "Until the End's" notion that even when things are impossible and dark, there is a promise to stick together and refuse to abandon the people you love -- even when you think you could lose. That bond already exists between Yang and Ruby, but it has expanded to encompass RWBY + JNR + company. (And boy are things going to get dark.) I also never realized how this song sets up Ruby's struggle with the burden of living up to her lost mother. Some of my favorite RWBY songs are the season credit closers -- but "Fear" might be the best of them due to its summation of season-long themes and just how the epic heavy sound matches enormity of the situation. I always love a big sound. It perfectly encapsulates Season 7.

2024-06-29 17:43:43 +0000 UTCHero bringing back up thoughts I regularly have: Sometimes I wish Mettle worked the other way round, with Ironwood able to quell doubts in others. (it wouldn't have brought team RWBY round at the end of V7 ofc) especially since it would go with the "hand on your shoulder to calm you" motif he already does sometimes. Something that can be inspiring, but also quite manipulative if used right. Additionally: That one line is a callback to Ironwood's first scene in Volume 2, where he asks Ozpin the same question. "I hope they never have to." being the response.

2024-06-29 17:38:17 +0000 UTCPyrrha!!!!! *cries* "Trust Love" is a great song. I think the contrast between it and the final song "Fear" is markedly noticeable once you think about everything that happened in the season. In the beginning they had hope, they had a plan, they were all united... and fear slowly whittled that down to where we are now, but the question really becomes - can they continue to trust in love and rebound from this, or are they going to fall into darkness? Ironwood's song "Hero" was sung by Caleb Hyles - he's an amazing vocalist. He got onto RT's radar when he did covers of Weiss' "This Life Is Mine" from Vol 4 and "Red Like Roses pt 2" from Vol. 1. He has videos on YouTube of both covers. The Red Like Roses video he actually did as a duet with Casey Lee Williams, where she sang the part of Ruby's mom, and he sung Ruby's (Casey's part). The line about children winning a war is a direct callback to his first introduction with Oz in Vol 2 - when the two of them are talking about the Festival and Qrow's warning, Ironwood turns and as he's leaving Oz's office, he says "But ask yourself - do you honestly believe your children can win a war?" And Oz very softly replies "I hope they never have to." I honestly think "Hero" is a conversation where Ironwood is talking to Oz, who he hasn't been able to talk to since the Fall of Beacon. There're too many lines - the callback about the children, "Our enemies destroy", I would fly into the sun it that would keep our dream alive", "My oath to you I won't forsake".... All of the references to "our" seem to be references to their shared goal of stopping Salem. "Until The End" was the song that was playing during the Oz monologue in the final chapter of this volume. It was written (lyrics) and composed by Casey Lee, rather than by Jeff Williams.

2024-06-29 16:49:08 +0000 UTCThere is 1 song from volume 7 that is missing, when Team RWBY fights the Ace Ops called 'War', not sure if it's part of the official soundtrack. But loved the reaction

2024-06-29 16:39:59 +0000 UTCI really like how the tone of of the soundtrack is basically the same as the Volume. Starts off hopefuI and optimistic and progressively gets more depressing. I only just realized the song Celebrate has a shout out to Casey William’s band which is called Ok, Goodnight “When the early birds arise That’s the time we finally say ok, goodnight” Volume 8 will be the last time Jeff Willams was involved with the music for RWBY as he retired and Casey and her bandmate Martin Gonzalez took over to write the music for Volume 9. (The music for Volume 9 definitely has a different vibe from the other volumes but it’s no less great I know you’re a ways off from that though though) Hero was sung by Caleb Hyles, a YouTuber musician who did some RWBY covers for his channel. The folks at RT liked his work and invited him to be on the soundtrack.
