Full Watch Along Reaction to ATLA Season 2 Episode 1

The cutting of the top-knot/ponytail can symbolize stepping down from a position, starting a new era of your life, or not being able to return to your former way of life. Plus, a haircut could be helpful if you're on the run.

Thanks so much! glad you have been enjoying rewatching it with us 😊

Bethany and Ken

Of course she's a Briarwood! πŸ˜‚ That's great she gets cast as the villain. Everyone wants to be the hero, but playing the villain is more fun 😈

Bethany and Ken

Oh damn 😯 She has impressed us so far and made an impression 🀩

I am REALLY looking forward to seeing your reactions of book 2 and book 3 of ATLA. It only gets better and better and better. After this first episode of Book 2, I can officially say, of course with no spoilers, you have been introduced to one of the most iconic, well written antagonists in animated history, I'd go as far to say the history of story-telling in all genres. I know that's a big statement, but Azula, well, buckle up lol looking forward to what you two think of her! Enjoy!

Loved how shocked they both were seeing Iroh redirect Azula's lightning LOL. They were both fooled by Iroh's aloof/zen personality. There's a reason he's called "The Dragon of the West" during season 1. P.S I don't want to spoil too much but all 4 bending elements have an "advanced form" to them so yes creating lightning is Fire's advanced form and you'll learn more about Iroh's lightning redirection technique down the line. There are also ALTERNATE sub bending forms under the 4 main bending elements which are different than the advanced forms. Some, but not all of the advanced forms are extremely rare and you'd have to be born with the ability to perform them or have overwhelming complete mastery.

That is a good point I completely forgot he has a top not. Yeah I think it's just a respected place in the Fire Nation. It makes sense though why they cut off their hair to show they are now refugees as the previous scene is Azula saying they are now enemy's of the Fire Nation.

Incorrect, we see several other characters with the topknot, notably Admiral Zhao. It seems to indicate that you are a respected member of the Fire Nation, but does not indicate you are part of the royal family. Avatar Roku is another one that has it. If you guys are looking for a real world culture to base your knowledge of the Fire Nation on, they are based on Imperial Japan. The Earth Kingdom is based on China, Air is based on Tibetan Monks, and Water is a mix of indigenous peoples, most notably Polynesians and Inuits.

The flashback where Zuko got his scar from his father, you can see his Uncle and sister near each other. His Uncle looked away and his sister was smiling. She’s a crazy evil lil sister.

One thing I always find funny about each of your reaction videos is that when the episode ends and the display box disappears, the dog is always knocked out in one of your laps.

Jordan Darden

You guys were right. The hair symbolizes the mark of the royal family. The fire lord, azusa, zuko, iroh and everyone else in the royal family has a form of ponytail for crowns and pins to show royalty and them cutting off their ponytail shows the audience that they are now fugitives of the fire nation and can never return.
