2024-07-29 15:03:27 +0000 UTCYou're right; it is a shame the parents have for Toph, but it's because she is blind. Remember, the Blind Bandit was a coverup, so they knew nothing about it. These are very wealthy, high-society folks. In history, it was common to hide deformities or get rid of kids with deformities in whatever ways possible. They were ashamed that their only heir was blind, which meant something was wrong with her. They kept her hidden and assumed she would struggle for her entire life. It could have also been guilt on their part for birthing a blind child and, therefore, maybe took solace in the fact that they cared for her so meticulously. There is a lot you can unpack from Toph's situation with her parents and what we know of wealthy society throughout history.

I don't want to spoil too much but how she was raised & treated by her parents affected her mentality for a lifetime and her questionable future choices. I hope you guys will remember that down the line.
