Besides, Toei itself as a company wouldn’t care, but there’s individuals behind these shows. People who are fans in their own right. It’s not impossible. Let’s not be so quick to dismiss something that’s very possible.

I doubt Japanese audiences have even heard of it, so why would an overseas larger-than-life studio reference a joke that would fly over the head of like… 100% of its main audience? Super cracks more jokes than Z, so odds are there’s bound to be one or two gags that might coincidentally overlap with DBZA. Latin America also has its own separate *massive* meme culture surrounding DB and yet, still, nobody outside Latin America partakes in it. Do you? Does Toei? A niche can be big but it’s still a niche. Sorry if this sounds salty but people are too charitable towards DBZA 🫤

2024-09-18 00:21:08 +0000 UTCI believe that the main reason the guys didn’t considered Yamcha for the team is because he announced his retirement in fighting a while back. Unlike Krillin, he’s actually sticked to the retirement and hasn’t fought since (not counting filler). In that case Master Roshi is the better choice of the two. And yeah his pervy self is a bit of an issue, but in OG Dragon Ball he is a badass with a lot of moments that highlight his power so don’t count him out just yet. He can pull through when it counts.

2024-09-17 19:01:27 +0000 UTCPeople got a bit annoyed with Super’s reuse of Buu sleeping as a gag/excuse since DBZ had shown him sleeping for 5 seconds and he was good to go. The manga’s version of this moment which came out after this episode gave the convenient explanation that Buu sleeps deeply once a year in hibernation, as opposed to supposedly just being extra tuckered out from training (which only applies to the anime). Whether you buy either or is up to you.

She’s voiced in the dub by Veronica Taylor, most well known as VA for Ash Ketchum in the Pokémon anime. As characters like the Ginyu Force, Great Saiyaman, and Pride Troopers are parodical of Super Sentai, she parodies the popular “Magical Girl” subgenre of anime/manga. The subgenre’s defined by young women using magic/magic-like abilities to transform into an alter egos through super elegant and graceful animation sequences to fight evil. The gag being that instead of the alter ego being more pretty/fashionable like they are outside of DB, she gets fatter and frumpier. Popular examples of the Magical Girl genre are Pretty Cure and Sailor Moon (a series that pioneered the localization of anime alongside DBZ). Curious to see where you guys think of her and U2 in the future. Side Note: Fat Ribrianne is the only U2 fighter that was designed by Toriyama. Brianne de Chateau and the other members of U2 were drawn up by Toei.
