2024-10-08 17:04:51 +0000 UTCYou're definitely right about the fire nation not always being dicks lol. In avatar Kyoshis time (the one before Roku) I believe the tyrant in the world was actually an Earth Kingdom dictator named Chin the Conquerer. So history has definitely been dynamic haha

2024-10-08 01:57:00 +0000 UTCI agree with Ken. The same way Nazi Germany wanted to “share their bloodline” and how it had to be “purified.” These people REALLY mean that, look at the lengths they’re willing to go to.

2024-10-08 00:38:34 +0000 UTCThis episode makes me wish the show was for a more mature audience, because they made Fire Lord Sozin too simplistic, not showing the gradual shift to conquest that you might expect from another character. Even Sauron in Lord of the Rings paved a road with good intentions (if you read the Silmarillion).

2024-10-07 22:30:17 +0000 UTCHoly crap, such a throwaway line that I finally noticed. Here, I kept thinking the last indicator of time we get in the show is in season 2, The Chase, when Aang says it's the start of spring. Here, though, we're going to Roku's home island "On the Summer Solstice." So, we're officially at the start of Summer. This means there are roughly 2-2.5 months remaining until Sozin's Comet arrives. In case it wasn't obvious, Aang grunting while changing positions was (I always assumed) him trying to sit on Fang the Dragon. Meanwhile, Sokka being able to chime in with "As a matter of fact, they do not" is a callback to the Winter Solstice episode in season 1, when Hei Bai took Sokka into the spirit world and when he came out, his first response was, "I seriously need to use the bathroom." Fun Fact: Roku's Earth Bending teacher in the flashback is the earthbender we see in the intro of every episode, "Water Earth Fire Air." His design was the original beta design of Toph, before they eventually changed her character into the amazing tiny terror we have now. There he is, Greg Baldwin taking up the Iroh mantle from the late Mako. Personally, I think he does a fantastic job.

2024-10-07 22:20:28 +0000 UTCIn the time of Szedo (the fire nation avatar before Roku), the fire nation used to be a third world country struggling with their economy, agriculture, poor national defense, politics and other natural resources. Many generations later the nation is finally in a prosperous era. Thus Sozin then wanted to branch out and share their success with the world. in reality he invaded of course lol.

2024-10-07 21:43:20 +0000 UTCI think Roku was trying to reduce the potential damage the volcano could produce. it was 2 volcanos that were erupting and I think had the potential of destroying the entire island and damaging other islands nearby. That's just my guess...
