Dragon Ball Super 97 Full Reaction

Full Watch Along Reaction to Dragon Ball Super 97

It's a small spoiler for someone's transformation.

Jason Rogue

That one being…

k c

Yeah, that's the one.

Jason Rogue

Hunter x Hunter spoilers: Hunter x Hunter might have the worst case of that, from what I've seen. They wrong for putting the song right after the King's death 😆.

JT

I agree with DND, a lot of animes tend to do that, like someone will die at the end of the episode and the outro song would sound bubbly, and I can't stand that lol

J Sal

That's characteristic of a lot of anime outros. Most likely for the reason that they give you time to settle down from the hype. Kind of like a cool down after a workout.

JT

It's just a jarring change of tone. The tournament is so hype and then the end song is so slow and kind of a downer 🤗

Bethany and Ken

Buddy system. I'm telling you, that would've been gold 😜

Bethany and Ken

That makes sense with things happening in parallel 🙂

Bethany and Ken

🤗

Bethany and Ken

Good decision. A little tip tho: It could be cool to watch the what-if scenarios on YT after you've finished Super. Some real good ones in here.

JT

🥳🥳🤩

Bethany and Ken

Ah, okay. Thanks for this. I knew someone disappeared haha 🤗

Bethany and Ken

Stay safe please. 🙏

Bethany and Ken

Great info! And if you two are having trouble then we would get wrecked in story mode haha. DBZ Kakarot it is 🙂

Bethany and Ken

Thanks for giving us that context 🙂

Bethany and Ken

Stay safe!!

Multxverse

You might be thinking of ending 11 (the last one), "Lágrima". It shows up on 122 and onward.

JT

I want to say the whole minute to 5 minutes passing by the ToP is a good contrast to the whole 30 minutes to 2 hours passing by during recruitment. Don't worry, later episodes show more battles and less staring down, also the animation gets so much better after episode 121. I can't remember, but one of the endings you should not see all the way through, it has a minor spoiler. I won't say why, obviously, but I'll let you know which ending it is. I do believe we see every ring out, but I could be wrong as it's been a few months since I've rewatched Super and the movies.

Jason Rogue

22:54 Not a fan of ending 9 huh? While I can't say it's one of my favorites either, I will say there is an element of it that had sparked theories about this arc's story. Won't say what that element is until later. The song also hits a lot different after Toriyama's death, as the lyrics read as a blatant goodbye message between people who hope they'll one day meet again. Not that such a thing is exclusive to ending 9, but still, it's bittersweet.

JT

Goku, Frieza, Vegeta and the Androids were never gonna be team players lol I think the best strategy that would suit U7 would be to assist if a team member is struggling to defeat their opponent rather than fight as a group.

Cynergy

So the justification behind the 1 minute per episode thing is that almost every scene happens in parallel. Someone on YouTube ran all the distinct fights per episode in parallel and it came out at ~1 minute per episode. It’s still hilarious from the pov of the audience though

Hohoho

"All that happened in a minute?" iGot a feeling that we'll be hearing Ken say that a lot. Lol!

Vito Bambino

27:41 That's right Ken, you better be listening to me and my DB psychosis! 😆jk

JT

Right? Perhaps it's just symptomatic of us playing early access 😂. We're the guinea pigs. Either that or we're lacking 😁

JT

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds Sparking Zero's story mode obnoxiously difficult lol.

Shadowpunch13

25:40 Nailed it. Another animation hack that you may or may not have noticed is that a good number of sequences of animation in this episode have been reused from previous episodes. For example, this shot of Goku getting blasted (17:55) is from his sparring match with "Thin Buu". The ki blasts have been recolored and placed on a new backdrop. Same goes for the several times Basil uses his Shining Blaster. It's the same animation Toei used for his fight with Buu in the expo. Won't bring it up every time reused animation comes up in the future, but I wanted to mention it bc a lot of people were starting to notice it when this episode came out.

JT

Stay safe dude!

Austin Collier

You guys have made it to the arc that was probably the peak of dragon ball super in the anime. You guys are in for a wild ride.

Akka

wish you luck and stay safe

Akka

8:03 Angels only become "inactive" when a destroyer disappears/dies. Supreme Kais are the ones who vanish alongside the destroyers.

At the time of this comment I’m getting ready to get hit by Hurricane Milton. If my annoying ass isn’t down here on Thursday for ep 98, I’ve likely lost electricity. Course something like this had to happen during this big week for DB, but it is what it is. If anyone here is also in Milton’s path, please take care.

JT

Some notes on Sparking Zero after playing Goku’s Saga for 3.5 hrs on PC (no spoilers ofc): - DBZ Kakarot would definitely be a better fit for getting a look at the original telling of Z’s story. Episode battles in Sparking Zero only give you the highlights and are shot in a way that is meant for players who have seen the original scenes several times already. So yeah, you two def should play Kakarot over this. - Could be bc this is the first BT/Sparking game I’ve been able to play for myself, but the story mode is surprisingly hard so far. Even more difficult if you want to see the what-if content firsthand, and I’m not usually bad with action games

JT

17:20 Napapa, the pink sumo from U10 is what’s known as a “Yokozuna”. This is the highest rank that a wrestler (Rikishi) can claim in sumo. His chanting of “Dosukoi” also references real-life sumo, an exclamation that wrestlers use to hype themselves or other rikishi. Figured you guys might just pass it off as gibberish without the context.

JT

Since only a handful of the 80 fighters get extended amounts of screen time this arc, I’ve decided to cover name puns for characters as they get eliminated each episode. Perhaps it’s unnecessary, but this is fun for me so I’m sticking with it: U10’s Butterfly Lady: Rylibeu/Lilibeu (play on the metal Beryllium) U4’s Ogre-like Man: Nink (play on Nin’niku, Japanese word for “garlic”) Fighters Remaining: 78/80
