That was Vol 8 Ep 9 some about 3 min when Oscar was lying down.

Moonas

I can't watch the scene where Weiss tells the others what happened without crying, the way Ruby just faints....

Kothana

Also not 100% sure, but yeah, iirc they've said they want everyone from the original crew who's able and willing, and most if not all are, so I'd definitely say volume 10's a matter of when rather than if.

Kothana

If no one told you yet Rwby has been picked up by Viz Media. And i‘m not a 100% sure but from what i know, quite a lot of people from th crew of rwby can keep working on it?

Lara

Sometimes, and I feel certainly in this case, cruelty is part of the point. For the sake of brevity as I could expand on that entirely too much, the heroes need to be better than the villains. Specifically, they need to experience losses comparable to Salem's and be able to move on from them in the way she failed to. To show how wrong she was even before her fall.

Jeff

When Ruby called the mouse Little I immediately thought of Stuart Little

DeAnthony Potts

so rwby was planned for 12 seasons before they were let go from there old company they were already working on season 10 and when they were picked up by vis media they said that vis is keeping on many of the same cast so I don't know what they would mean by that if they weren't at least making volume ten on top of that vis were apparently exited to pick up the rites so even though season ten isn't public or green lit I think it would be I dumb idea to stop here I think we will see season 12 but maybe that's hopeful thinking

SK- Eferthigra

Happy to hear this 🙂

Bethany and Ken

What episode was that speech? 🤔

Bethany and Ken

Yeah if this season is all in Ever After then at least two seasons to wrap it up depending on length of seasons 🤔

Bethany and Ken

While I would normally agree there's a lot of factors in play that allow for and Penny's arc as it stands is too cruel. It is worth noting that in the original story Pinocchio died multiple times with the two most notable being when he was hung by his own strings and while fleeing the Monstroso, sound familiar?

MegumiMary

It was confirmed at a panel by Kerry that those civilians were dead on impact of Cinder's bomb in the portals

Mare

You're questions will be answered in this volume as well as the name of this strange land. I almost mentioned the name of the place in another comment I made but had to stop myself LOL. Just keep that Volume 8 ep in mind.

Mare

Fun Fact: Originally Monty wanted the "wonderland" scenario to occur much much earlier so during the airing of Volume 2, CRWBY was in the development stage for this strange new world. but they couldn't fit it into their plans until much later. Also with RWBY taking inspiration from Gurren Lagan (Monty made CRWBY watch GL for homework to give them inspiration), the scenario might seem familiar to you if you've watched GL.

Mare

You are correct about the music for this volume! Jeff Williams, who’d written the previous 8 soundtracks, effectively retired after Vol. 8 while Alex Abraham, who’d written most of the previous scores after being recruited by Jeff, also stepped away. Vol. 9 soundtrack and score production was then fully taken on by Casey Lee Williams and her Ok Goodnight bandmates, most notably bandmate Martin Gonzalez . It's a great soundtrack and OST that sounds notably different than before but still "RWBY".

TXOT

I don't think Penny will be or should be brought back at all. 1) She had "died" previously, and had been brought back to life. Doing this a second time will just dilute any impact her death would make. 2) Part of why a character is killed off is how the lose of that character develops the protagonists of a story. That development is stunted is the death is meaningless.

Jason S

I think this opening has to be one of my favourites now. The musical style makes me think that it may not have been written by Jeff Williams, but rather by Ok, Goodnight, Casey Lee's band, though I'm not sure about that. The premise reminds me of an episode of Volume 8 in which Oscar and Ozpin were talking about a fairy tale called "The girl who fell through the world", which might be the fairy tale they've found themselves into, and clearly inspired by Alice in Wonderland. It would also make sense, because most of the other fairy tales talked about in the show so far have already been explained : "The tale of the two brothers", which is clearly the story of the Gods, "The girl in the tower", which is most likely about Salem's backstory, "The seasons", which is the origin of the maidens. There's one that was mentionned in Volume 3 by Pyrrha that I don't think we've tackled yet, called "The Shallow Sea". I'm quite curious to find out why exactly a place like this exists, why falling from a pocket dimension created by an entity that is itself a creation of the Gods would land you in a fantasy land that either somehow became a fairy tale, or was created from one. Was it some sort of prototype made by the Gods, something created by the minds of all those who read or heard the fairy tale, or was it created by something else? As I've said before, I haven't watched this Volume yet, so I'm discovering it alongside you guys, though I might decide to catch up and binge on my own if the story gets really interesting (and I've been told that it is). For now, I just need to adapt to the sudden shift from Volume 8's environment and story to this one.

KeterLordFR

Season 10 is still being greenlit but its all but guaranteed since they are talking about season 10 being the last volume and then considering spin offs. I feel like if your considering spin offs, the final seasons gotta be pretty in the bag.

Rinnzu Rosendale

This season is where Weiss became my favorite of team RWBY. Get ready for shenanigans.

Daemon Russell

1. So..do you remember when I told u to remember one fairy tail that Ozpin was telling to Oscar on Salem ship? Now is the time ^^ 2. Look on Ruby in opening

Moonas

Lets F@###& GO!! ❤️🤍💜💛 Espero que disfruten mucho este Volume. Y espero que recuerden muy bien los volumenes anteriores. Los necesitaran como referencias ✌🏻. Saludos 🇲🇽🫰🏻

El Patitas de Molcajete Takamachi

I think we're gonna need a volume 10 and probably 11, maybe even a 12 to really wrap things up. So hopefully they get things sorted out

Alex Smith

I mean even without the instant fatality angle, it's super easy to just say whatever their experience with the ever after was simply took place away from the main characters. Given the extremely flexibility of the place, coming up with a definitive answer almost seems silly.

Jeff

I can't wait for this Volume reaction

Sol-Edge

for the record: this is a spoiler as this is all my theory and speculation

MegumiMary

Gosh, this is gonna make the one-episode-a-week so PAINFUL! I’m so stocked to see you guys watch this season.

supasaiyajin jay

Loved your guy’s reaction as always Volume 9 is pretty intense so I hope you guys are ready for what’s in store.

RetroBeastto

Fun Fact: The subtitles say that it was Penny who was calling Ruby's name when she washed up on the beach I geniuenly think there's a lot of clues sprinkled in this whole volume that Penny will be brought back in Volume 10 that the CRWBY snuck in as a way to say "She'll be back- please don't hate us!" Some are pretty obvious as you will see but this first one not so much

MegumiMary

Oh volume 9... You guys are in for a wild ride! Honestly I wouldn't mind an Ever After spinoff series at some point, I think it could be very entertaining

Serpent King

The explanation that I've always heard was that as the civilians were not trained warriors they lacked a defensive aura to shield themselves from Cinder's surprise blast damage - the heat/explosion that sent them over the edge was itself fatal to them, but the production team probably wouldn't want to graphically animate a bunch of flaming corpses raining down. Supposedly the civilian deaths from the explosion itself were confirmed in the Vol. 8 commentary but I've never listened to it myself to say for sure. I guess to go back to your original question, they didn't even have enough plot armor to make it to the fall.

TXOT

Volume 9 100% takes place in wonderland, what in the show is called "Ever After". Kinda funny when you think back on Volume 8's intro. But we won't see Vacuo or anything of Remnant really this Volume. This Volume's theme is acceptance in so many different forms. We are all waiting for Volume 10 from Viz now. They've teased info coming soon & that the story will see it's conclusion. Please watch all the after works stuff at the end of the volume as well. There's an unpolished Vacuo perspective from a few characters plus 4 little short stories.

Chibi_Witch888

viz was doing announcements on twitter on series that were coming out, they didnt officially announce rwby v10 but they hinted that they would have news soon

Kruxx

the thing i dont understand about this volume is did all the civies that fell not have enough plot armor to make it to the island?

Sarah Nara

I like how they all have different reactions, including Weiss -- who initially remains elusive about what happened back at the portal waypoint NOT because she doesn't care but because it's too hard to voice those events more than once... and then loses it when she does. I also like that they kept track of who would and wouldn't know what -- like, when Ruby is asking Little about her friends, she only asks about Blake and Yang (because she doesn't know that Weiss fell). It's good to keep in mind for later episodes, about who might know what. Blake and Yang <3 Little is great, both in the voice acting and the animation. (In fact I think the voice acting of the new characters that we'll meet in the Ever After is all superb -- performance and direction.) Little is Ruby's lifeline at the moment, the one sweet thing that helps her to hang together after she awakes, after what happened in Atlas. As always, the opening title sequence gives clues as to the season's content and the general direction of the characters. Feelings about Neo will become even more polarized by the end of this season, I am sure. To me, this season felt like a palette cleanser (there's a whimsical nature to the Ever After) after two intense seasons in Atlas ending disastrously, but it also acts as a necessary epilogue as each member of RWBY processes the fallout of what happened. Some will take things in stride, others will have more difficulty. But it seems they wrote the last three seasons together or at least with all pieces in mind, and it shows as we move through Season 9 even if the events of the Ever After feel a bit out of left-field at first...

Jennywocky

Almost all the characters are they/them this volume. Safe to just assume that unless you hear them say otherwise.

Coleman Mavity

I know others have said already, but Volume 9 is also my favorite, by a lot.

Coleman Mavity

MY FAVORITE VOLUMEEEEE YESSSS IM SO EXCITEDDD

Akash

LETS GOO!!

Ryan

You'll notice the animation quality of this season is just yet another step up from previous seasons as well (in my opinion). But honestly' same reactions- Weiss starting to explain everything and cry almost got me too. This is all i will say

Hononotenshi

Indeed! I forget if anything was officially announced or still pending about volume 10?

Hononotenshi

Blake and Yang's reunion was definitely my favorite part of this episode!!

Bryan Forquer

V9 is a fun ride, buckle up. The writers said it's an idea they've had almost ever since the creation of the show and had been waiting for years to use it. Little is also exclusively referred to by they/them, fyi

Hi-Viz

Viz media acquired RWBY so I expect there to be a Volume 10. No idea when it will come out, but I can assume Viz has it on their list of things somewhere. Edit: Little is great.
