But I will say the next two episodes you guys will see next week are real highlights of the tournament. We even see something we havenβt seen in a long time. Canβt wait!

2024-10-24 22:51:25 +0000 UTC23:40 Looks like you guys fall into the camp of fans not liking most of the Pride Troopers and Universe 2, and I can't say I blame you. While them being "much" about love and justice is meant to be the point as parodical characters of Magical Girl/Super Sentai media, I still think that Toei could've made them more palatable by looking at why characters like the Ginyus work. The Ginyu Force still pokes fun at the Super Sentai genre while not making that punchline their entire personality, and on top of that they turn out to be a genuine threat to our cast (unlike most of U2 and U11). This is a point that relates to one of my biggest problems with this arc, but it's better to discuss it near the end of the tournament.

2024-10-24 19:34:14 +0000 UTCOh yeah, Getes didn't punch Ribrianne because he thought she was gross. Something made him want to dodge her entire being, rather than connect with a punch. I will say, I don't think anything has ever disgusted Vegeta, so that's why he didn't know what he was feeling.

2024-10-24 19:00:59 +0000 UTCIβd also wager that Universeβs 2 exaggerated focus on love couldβve been Toeiβs way of trying to recreate Toriyamaβs distaste of anything related to love or romance. In Dr. Slump, Toriyama mentioned that writing about such things gives him hives and that he shuts his eyes whenever movies start getting sappy. This was a constant matter conflict between him and his editor Torishima, who was responsible for pushing Toriyama to include more relationships (even pushing for Goku and Bulma to get together in OGDB). Note: Toei's writers could very well just feel the same way, and everything above could be unrelated. Just my speculation.

2024-10-24 19:00:41 +0000 UTCSo yeah, a lot of people loathe this episode. You can tell that Toei was really trying to capture the sense of lame/ironic humor Toriyama had in his earlier works. The jokes here donβt land for those who donβt have the familiarity with Magical Girl/Super Sentai tropes thatβs needed to see the irony. Although, I will say that even I think Toei dragged the bit on a little too long. Imo it wouldβve been funnier if 17βs blast just knocked the U2 fighters out, got the same scolding from them and Toppo, and then continued the tournament from there.

Roasie for me is the most annoying of the 3, Kakunsa is my favorite and Ribrianne is fine. Just can't stand the CHA-CHA-CHA-CHA-CHA for like 3 minutes straight does damage to my ears.
