I think you two would be perfect newcomers to the world of Blazblue. As I’ve mentioned before, this series is not as popular as its sibling, Guilty Gear. In fact, many GG fans absolutely hate Blazblue because it leans too much into the β€œanime” aesthetic. And this video proves you two aren’t familiar with anime aesthetics, so you can jump into this series with an actual curious state instead of indifference or contempt.

You only did one video of the game related to it called β€œBlazblue Cross Tag Battle” that featured a bunch of franchises including the RWBY characters. Here’s the thing about Blazblue and RWBY. Blazblue is much older. And Monty Oum, the creator of RWBY, was a big fan of Blazblue, so a lot of the weapons in RWBY were most likely inspired by the weapons you saw in here. Heck, Ruby herself has a unique intro with Ragna (the one you compared to Dante) and just has her gushing over his weapon. Now about the green haired guy you compared to Zoro. Just gonna say this right now, both of the characters you made comparisons with, have absolutely no similarities besides color scheme. In fact, the green haired one I would say you might find to be quite…… memorable.

Blazblue is so fun and cool, the games have a lot of single player content and some fun gag story mode stuff Some trivia: The creator of RWBY Monty Oum was a fan of Blazblue and took some inspiration from it, for example Ruby's scythe and Ragna's looking similar, later down the line the creator of Blazblue Toshimichi Mori would become a big Fan of RWBY. Later RWBY and Blazblue would crossover in the game Blazblue Cross tag battle (BBTag). BBtag is a crossover between Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena (a Persoan 4 fighting game developed by Arcsystemwkorks), Under night In Birth (Fighting game published by Arcsystemworks) You guys should totally check out all the BBtag trailers one day

Huh, this certainly brings back memories, I still remember it used to be my favorite game decades ago back when I was still in middle school……

12:22 Here's one: Thorgi's Arcade did a big retrospective on the series's history and story. It's over two hours long though, so you'd split it up the same you do with ClementJ64's lore videos. From what I've seen, I'd say that BlazBlue is even more complicated than what you've witnessed from Street Fighter and Tekken. Link: https://youtu.be/c37s3BA4i8E?si=UCuM8M-fPA_rKQFk

If you like BlazBlue, how about GranBlue? Completely different series, but another fun fighting game. Please react to Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising - All Skybound Arts. They're all incredibly cinematic.

BLAZBLUE TIME! LETS GO!

11:21 I'm not an expert on the series' history, but I'd wager that the reason some finisishes are cinematic while others are not is because Central Fiction initially released as an arcade game in Japan. This matters because: 1) BlazBlue is on the smaller end of 2D fighting game franchises, meaning that resources being put toward development is much less than the likes of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, and even modern Guilty Gear. Might not have the time, hardware memory, etc. to implement cinematics for every character even if they wanted to. Hell, Central Fiction remains as the only BlazBlue release that never even got an official English dub, so I doubt that much capital was put behind this release. 2) Astral Finishes in Central Fiction can only be pulled off under conditions that reflect a "match point". So if you're seeing the animation, the match has pretty much been decided. Watching a cinematic finish would be cool the first few times, but the spectacle could easily wear off in a competitive setting and start to feel redundant and dragged out once it's been seen over and over again.

2:45 "Why is that a thing?" is the best way to sum up Arakune, and I don't just mean his aesthetic & design.

JT

0:30 Fun Fact: Monty Oum was actually a fan of the BlazBlue series, so it's very likely that Ragna's Blood Scythe could've served as inspiration for Crescent Rose (among a number of other things in RWBY). Unfortunate that he never got to see his creation cross over with BlazBlue in Cross Tag Battle.
