RWBY Volume 9 Episode 4 Reaction

Comments

We will do that after volume 9...maybe after the movies too 🤔 Not sure yet order. But going to check out all the other RWBY content 🙂

Bethany and Ken

Definitely remember that, but it wasn't top of mind when watching this so appreciate you bringing it back up 😀

Bethany and Ken

That's very true 😢

Bethany and Ken

Hmm, thanks for letting us know about that. Something must have happened with some wrong copying and pasting from another reaction where the screen was changed and we just didn't fix the top trim 🤔

Bethany and Ken

Yeah, it's a lesson on not putting so much burden on yourself. 😢 Ruby has always been the helping hand, and she needs to realize that all those relationships she's built up go both ways and that the only way they defeat Salem is together

Bethany and Ken

Yeah it’s a great way to keep RWBY alive until we hear some news. It’s in its own bubble not canon but I was surprised how good it was.

Johnny Kindle

We'd be down for checking that out 🙂

Bethany and Ken

THAT scene is maybe my favorite non-fight scene in all of RWBY

Erimgard13

Ok, that whole scene in the smoke was really great. A perfect illustration of the character growth that they've all been through during the entire story so far.

KeterLordFR

I wanna see rwby chibi

Darling_Ohay0

I suppose if you know already but without context then not really. The catapillar burns the leaves from the tree that causes them to be faced with their "old" selves that are offering them to change in some way. The cat also refers to the tree & their leaves with a lot of similar riddles at this point but unless you know, then it just sounds like more riddles.

Chibi_Witch888

Its canonness is dependent on how Viz decides to treat it since they're the new owners of RWBY. Since RT was WB's subsidiary, it was easy to place that synergy between their two properties without spending extra on copyright licenses but now that it's out of Warner/Discovery's hands, it's a matter of Warner/Disc allowing Viz to utilize their characters and their likenesses...with a fee of course.

It's kind of spoilery, to the post you responded to so I'm guessing that you haven't seen all of Volume 9. Once you've seen it in its entirety, you'll understand the context of "The Tree Offers Change."

Mare

Its a nice flip back in Chapter 2 Weiss, Blake, and Yang were so unsure of themselves while Ruby always held on to her determination to be a huntress. Now they found themselves and came out stronger while Ruby completely lost her sense of purpose

DeAnthony Potts

Ooo you don’t know yet. You’re going to love this season.

Elias Aguirre

I don't know if you remember back in volume 2 when Dr. Ooblek asked Blake, Weiss, and Yang why they wanted to be huntresses. They gave half hearted responses and needed to resolve themselves for what the job was at the end of the day. But Ruby didn't need to be asked that because she already knew what it meant to be a huntress. Now we see the roles reversed here.

Something to note about Ruby's mindset as well. Way back in Volume 1 when she and Weiss were arguing Ozpin told her this: "Being a team leader is not just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" Especially this episode with the flash back version of herself, you can see how a seemingly helpful line to get Ruby on track has turned into a toxic mentality for her and put undo strain on her now that she has failed and people have died.

"The tree offers change", what the Tree got to do with it 🤣, I thought it was the caterpillar thing doing trippy stuff? Isn't the tree just the destination to leave right now, or was that forest they were in just now, already the trees forest? If so, I think I missed that 😅.

HaruGrad

The cat loves puns clearly & it's painful yet hilarious. 🤣 the whole bit asking about Ciel & that there's so many characters to keep track of was literally a tease at the fandom 🤣 The confrontations of themselves with their own dark questions, depression given physical form. The tree offers change if you don't want to be "you" anymore. It's so sad & difficult someone that's admired for their sense of self, losing it.

Chibi_Witch888

I can't wait for your reaction to the next episode. You're gonna scream lol

Vandanalia Heartloca

It's said to be canon adjacent, so is RWBY: Ice Queendom. I'd love to see those reactions as well!

Chibi_Witch888

Poor Blake, many have a harder time connecting with her..

Kierston Bell

I hope you both could see the full picture on your end -- on the response video, the top part of the image was trimmed off. "I sense a ... but(t) approaching," is maybe my favorite pun in the whole season. I think Kerry was reported as saying he wouldn't allow them to cut that joke, lol. Aside from Little provide some humor, it's amusing that Weis is getting a lot of comic relief lines too. Who would have expected that? Weiss' answer to her doppleganger was so beautiful and poetic, it brought tears to my eyes. So well earned. And the staging of the other three while leaving Ruby out -- just great storytelling. All three have them have already hit those large bumps in their lives earlier in the series: Back in Season 4, Yang accepting her lost arm and reassuming the huntress mantle, Weiss giving up the aristocracy and Schnee heir to be a huntress, Blake honoring her family connections to bring humans and faunus together -- and then in Season 6 Yang and Blake facing their fears by fighting Adam together. They know who they are. My heart breaks for Ruby this season, to see her so lost, but this has been the first real challenge to her unshakeable assumption that heroes triumph in the end and how she has viewed herself -- losing Atlas and Penny has finally overwhelmed her self-image. Is she really a huntress or just a pretender? It's not working out the way she thought. The animation and voice acting here is so superb, in conveying her gradual decline and depression over these first four episodes. Like Bethany said, I loved the juxtaposition of how young Ruby was inadvertently beating down older Ruby worse by her positive affectation; it's almost makes the happier Ruby self feel even more hollow in hindsight. I think Yang scanned as more brash when younger. She's more centered now. Like when she took Adam's sword and pitched it over the cliff -- "I may not be faster... but I'm smarter." Yang has less to prove now to herself and others, yet she's still her confident, courageous self... just more measured. "What are you?" seemed like a weird question to ask in the first episode, but now its repeated importance is starting to come into focus.

Jennywocky

Ruby is so broken already - she is helping everyone and she is feelining like she need to do it alone, everything is on her sholders. You can see it in opening already.

I agree with johnny Kindle, and as far as I know from the information I have been able to see, from my understanding I believe Justice League × RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen Part 1 and 2 are canon to the main story or canon adjacent to the main story line at least from the information I have researched about it due to WB owning Rooster Teeth, if it's has changed since then, then the comments can correct me, I don't want to give false info.

Sol-Edge

Will you guys react to the Justice League × RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen Part 1 and 2? That would be awesome!!!
