Btw Ken your Yamcha impression is wonderful 🤣

Goku: "I need to be able to fight him again someday." Cut to the Buu Saga against Majin Vegeta "Sorry for the delay" 🙂

SSG2PRO

Nah I don't bring it up to say you guys are "required" to have those moments in memory. I just like to mention them for the sake of giving context. P.S. Happy Thanksgiving if you're seeing this

JT

I think the other reason I thought this was because in Death Battle (1st Goku vs Superman or maybe it was the second one?) they talked about how Goku's spirit bomb wouldn't work against Superman because Superman is good. And Death Battle NEVER gets anything wrong 😜😂

Bethany and Ken

Just shows how much energy I guess the team has now. as you get stronger, I imagine you also get more energy right? 🤔 That's what power levels are kind of all about?

Bethany and Ken

This and Launch being at the bar, springs to mind when you mention. Not always while we are watching it/playing it though 🤗

Bethany and Ken

Our pleasure 🤗🙂

Bethany and Ken

Dig it 😁

Watching these playthroughs reminds me I need to finish this game on my Switch Lite 😂 Launch really is a fun character, it’s sad that she was sidelined by a dozen other characters in DBZ.

Definitely not Kooky Crazy Cooks. Cooking Channel Name

Going to high will reset you and going out of the border of that section of the map will do the same. Check for the dotted lines on the map. Also, you don’t have to mark events on your map. The game does it for you with the red (main), blue (side), and circles (searching). I hope you guys start doing the side stuff, too. They pop up only during certain parts of the story. Oh, and don’t forget to talk to every person you come across with a speech bubble. You may learn something new or interesting. At least, the ones that stick out from the other npcs.

The spirit bomb was small because Goku lost a lot of the energy when Vegeta interrupted him charging it. What he gave to Krillin were just the dreggs he managed to keep a hold of. The Spirit Bomb from Buu also was made up of energy volunteered from earth's inhabitants; almost all of it. This Spirit Bomb was made in the normal way, with Goku just taking a small, passive amount of energy from everything on earth. So it was never going to be as powerful as the Kid Buu spirit bomb anyway. It's probably a good thing, though. A completed spirit bomb would probably have killed Vegeta, and without him nobody would have survived Namek.

The amount of time I “wasted” leveling up these characters without knowing about the sacred or divine water… I was always maxed on the red/green/blue Z orbs. I finally bought it in preparation for Sparking Zero a few months ago lol.

The Saiyans armors are special built from the Frieza force to be super elastic. It's made for the ape transformations. When they were conquering planets. That's why vegeta clothes didn't come off but Gohans did. This is not a fan theory bs btw lol you can do the research yourself. It's explained in the anime & manga but you guys watched abridged so you probably never heard that from tfs parody. This game is edited to be more family friendly but in the manga/anime Gohan was actually nakey when he landed on Vegeta lol. Also Goku didn't just let vegeta live becuz he wanted to fight him, altho that's part of it. Goku also said he felt there was good in vegeta's heart. It was those two things. Remember Kakarot is detailed but it also misses some extra details, like it also missing when Goku realized he killed grandpa gohan. This game is adored by dbz fans but when you watch most reviews, that is most peoples biggest complaint about the Kakarot game.

omg i love kakarot on a sunday just makes sense to me so much. I played Kakarot & animal crossing so so much during the pandemic so these games have an emotional tie to me & Kakarot on a sunday just feels so therapeutic to me. I Love JRPGS, Thank you so much Beth & Ken.

1:43:24 I can't speak for everyone who comments to the effect, but I should elaborate on when I did with the Special Beam Cannon moment. I completely get why certain parts haven't stuck with you, and I had already known about the reasons you gave. It's just that, as a Dragon Ball fan, seeing someone who enjoys Dragon Ball very much be unfamiliar with those moments comes off as a little strange. It's like having a Star Wars fan be unfamiliar with the "I am your father" scene. Not trying to say you guys are fake fans or anything (been seeing some of that on YT comments and it's corny), but just strange. If you can believe it, I'd argue that my journey with Dragon Ball was even more awkward than yours in some ways.

1:17:04 The funny thing is, Gohan and Krillin did in fact use mental image training to pass the time during their trip to Namek. Guess the devs wanted to make a side quest by giving the scene a silly little background story.

JT

Funnily enough, you guys did see Launch before, and not just in Kai when she helps Goku with the Spirit Bomb (not that I'd expect you to remember). Part 1 of DBZA episode 10 had a scene where a lot of the cast from OGDB are reminiscing back on their adventures when they were relevant to the story. Bulma: "Whatever happened to Launch?" Master Roshi: "Who?" * cuts to blonde Launch alone at a bar, sad that she was written off *

JT

So yeah, as the others have mentioned, Launch was a gag character prominently featured among the main cast in OGDB. Interviews from Toriyama suggest that he had forgotten about her for a while when writing the last chapters of OGDB, so he later had Krillin say that she went "running off after Tenshinhan/Tien" when Bulma asks him where she is (effectively writing Launch out of the story). Toriyama most likely did this because he never really had any plans for her character in the first place. Frankly, she didn't serve much of a purpose other than to make jokes using her sneezing quirk. I was pleasantly surprised to see that she was in this game, as I hadn't heard about it until playing it myself. Looks like this game is the closest we've gotten to having Launch's story continued (albeit non-canon).

JT

23:34 Been having some annoyance with this myself. My advice would be stay lower when trying to fly around mountains. If you start seeing clouds, you're going too high.

JT

Damn I really enjoyed this playthrough, y'all had a lot of humor in this one compared to the previous, darker playthrough. And yes, Launch is a character from Dragon Ball, so when you guys start watching it you'll definitely see why she acted the way she did in this playthrough. Looking forward to Namek Saga next week, and y'all are really gonna love Geets on this one!

J Sal

8:52 Pretty sure this got cut out of the game, so I'll explain it here: The armor suits of the Frieza Force are able to stretch to accommodate for just about any species. Vegeta explains this to Gohan and Krillin as they are changing into Frieza Force armor on Namek. Guess it's a good thing I'm playing this alongside you two for the first time (nearing the end of the Cell Saga as of this morning). Helps me see where Kakarot leaves out info, and allows me to have a better memory for gameplay tips.

JT

Unless I'm overlooking something (I'm reading over the manga as I'm typing this), I'm pretty Goku's Spirit Bomb here is only as a small as it is because Goku only drew life energy from Earth's non-sentient life like plants and animals. This is unlike when he drew from other planets in the Namek Saga, or had everyone on Earth and beyond actively give up their energy in the Buu Saga. Honestly, I think the bigger inconsistency might be the size of the one used on Jiren, which only took energy from Team U7.

JT

Yeah, Launch is character from OG Dragon Ball who only had a few filler appearances in Z. You did actually see her blue hair form during Kai when all of Goku’s old friends recognized him and raised their hands to give energy for the spirit bomb.

Shadowpunch13

^^^^^ This. I also interpreted the bomb he threw at Jiren to moreso just be launched in his general direction. I think it’s also why Goku decided it’d be fine to use, because he knew the bomb would just push him out of the ring and not kill him.

Shadowpunch13

The spirit bomb can also hurt people that don’t have evil in them. It didn’t work on Gohan because Krillin “locked on” to Vegeta’s evil energy, like King Kai instructed. He simply wasn’t the target.

Big Cheese

Gohan VS Vegeta is unironically one of the more brutal fights in the show. Gohan literally elbows Vegeta's eye that goku blasted and starts beating the breaks off of him 😭 vegeta an elite planet conquering warrior screaming in pain because a 5 year old is savage enough to target his damaged eye is such good cinema. Vegeta truly survived the worst jumping in the show. This entire arc was so dark when I watched it as a kid with 0 knowledge about how the story plays out, everyone straight up dies and some can't be brought back like chiaotzu due to the rules set by the dragon balls previously. It had a really sad track playing and bulma crying while the others talk defeated despite the fact vegeta was defeated. It was a really sad plane ride to the hospital before krillin finally spoke about namek.
