I found this episode pretty moving with the flashback of Vander, Silco, and Felicia at the bar. (Also, did Felicia have purple hair? So her daughters have pink/red and blue hair? Heh. Of course.) So much happened since that happy time, but we get to see them before everything and realize they had been so close. But things happen, differences of opinion led to differences in action and then tragedy, and although we find out Vander tried to fix things, it didn't work, leading to the events of Season 1. This is juxtaposed with the current moment, with Vander and Vi and Jinx all being scarred and changed and lost to each other for so long... they are not the same people they once were... but they are still a family. I love that Vi mirrors Jinx's line back at her and invites her in -- hopefully being cathartic in some way after the last time the three of them were together in the alley below Silco's warehouse. Maybe things can't be put back as they were, but there can be reconciliation and healing. Ambessa, as frustrating as she can be at times in her bluntness and cruelty, is refreshing in simply being relentlessly consistent. We know what she wants, we know how she'll react, we know what she'll do to get it. Even if one doesn't approve of her, she has integrity of personality -- she doesn't fluctuate nor does she hide who she is. Haggard Jayce is pretty wild and extreme, but I guess we'll understand that as the season unfolds. Viktor definitely does vacillate back and forth over the line of goodness. I really like the Mel storyline, she seemed to be a side character so early in the series and now just continues to grow in importance. I wish they had an extra episode's worth of time in the season to flesh out a few of the concepts and factions better, such as the Black Rose. Any one of these could have benefited from more focus. But the visuals are so striking and so good.
