The werewolf, aka The Captain, could be considered the nazis trump card, just like how Alucard and Anderson are the trump cards for their factions. Aldo it wasn’t showed in the abridged version, he wanted to die. It’s been proven that he could have easily killed Seras at any point during their battle, but deliberately took her to the safe so that Seras would have access to silver. Hell, in the show he kicked the silver tooth at her so that she could kill him. That’s why he smiled at the end, cause he finally died. Lastly, unlike his nazi companions, he was sympathetic. He shot Heinkel in mouth because he didn’t want to kill Heinkel but knew that if he didn’t, Heinkel would have interrupted Alucard’s and Walters fight. He also enjoyed Schrödinger’s (the cat boy) childish attitude, sharing his things with him. A bit of an enigma he was.

When he says at the end "because that's what you want, and I'm NOT going to give it you," he's genuinely serious. He will do everything he can to ruin Walter's moment of "glory", instead of letting be a dignified final battle, out of spite. That's also why he shows up as a girl in the end. The operation that gave Walter power is also constantly reversing his aging, and by the end, he's as young as he was when he first met Alucard. And if you remember previous episodes, Alucard mentions that he "was a girl" when he was on a mission with Walter. That was the first time they met, and yes, he was wearing that female identity at the time. So, as another way to mock Walter, when Walter winds up taking on his appearance from back then, Alucard does the same.
