Abridged Show Poll

Vote on what our next abridged show should be that we check out.

Comments

Agreed. Most people reacting to YGOTAS basically rush through Season 1 and take it as a time capsule. It helps, that Episodes back then were meant to be 2-3 minutes only. The jokes are dated, and usually were one of three things: Reference, joke about the show/game itself that loses meaning without knowing the show, or gay joke (though made by a bisexual producer, still a bit cringey - and once or twice he included a really poorly aged Trans-Joke). Season 2 was a marked improvement, as it basically left the crutches of the actual series and took care to actually explain the full plot on its own. The humor got more secure (one of my favorite Episodes, Harpoonshipping, is here), the voice quality and editing got better, it became more than just the "grand-daddy" of abridged series, and actually was up there in quality with others. Season 4 was yet another jump, and actually an attempt at correcting some of the mistakes of the early adaptation and inject a lot more seriousness in the plot (while still being so much more goofy than DBZA). At times it felt a bit weird, having followed the show from near the beginning, but overall it was a nice development. If you are going for it, brace yourself for Early YouTube humor, and maybe ask for a guide of references to get the start. For example: The voice actor for the character Tristan (pointy-haired friend of the main character) changed early in the Anime, going from a formally goofy voice to a more grounded one. Other voice actors (Mokuba, Mai Valentine) changed at a later date as well, but this was the earliest swap. This will get referenced in the very first scene, and for several episodes later on.

Alot of so called Anime fans dislike the original SAO used to the response

People getting feisty over shows, I see. I'll just give my two cents on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged real quick. It was the originator of Abridged content, basically the first genuine article that YouTube had. It would go on to "inspire" many copycats that would rarely see their tenth episodes, but eventually TeamFourStar would rise above the rest as a true successor to YGOA. That being said, I would *almost* urge against it. Hear me out. YGOA is the first abridged series, and you'll feel every second of that age. Unlike DBZA, YGOA is more of a time capsule of when the episodes were released. Much of the humor, particularly in early seasons, has become very dated. One person voices all the characters, male and female alike, and actually had to deal with backlash from fans when he dared to bring in other people to voice characters. Something kind of impossible to imagine these days. On top of that, the editing and audio struggles as well, which takes twenty or more episodes to improve upon. Basically, imagine if the quality of DBZA's first few episodes dragged on through the entirety of the Ginyu Saga, and only just began to pick up quality when Frieza fought Nail. It would have made DBZA a much harder sell, and make no mistake, that would be what you're getting into with YGOA. But the reason I don't 100% vote against it is because of the legacy and growth it goes through. YGOA has some heartfelt moments as it goes on, and has these scenes that really hit hard on top of showing over a decade of growth in terms of quality, comedy, and creativeness. It is a unique experience that no other Abridged series has because of this. If you have the genuinely Herculean patience to sit through the roughest parts of the show, then you will come out the other side with some pretty great experiences. Just know the struggle is very real, and whether or not it would be worth it is up to you. That said, my vote goes to either SAO or FF7, but be warned that FF7 may be harder to parse what is happening if you never played the game or are aware of Square Enix memes.

I'd rather you guys just watch sao without it being abridged.

All a matter of opinion. Cant stand 90% of abridged shows myself.

Knight Spearhead

Lord O Linguine

Goblin slayer is only 8 episode I believe it could a great short series before starting on the other long ones

Death Comet

the show itself is awesome (if you can get over the shock and awe of episode 1), but the abridged....let's just say, anybody working in any sort of customer service job will be able to relate to one particular character.

I haven't seen any of these, but I still have opinions. I would rather recommend the actual SAO anime, it's short and I don't remember it having any fillers at all. Much like the Buu saga for DBZ, it's already a pretty silly and fun anime in its own right, but it also comes with some dystopian drama mixed in. Although I was recently reminded of some weird shit that happened in the show. I originally thought it was some kind of mistranslation until I started seeing it in a lot of other animes thereafter eventually also noticing it in some older animes too. It's one of three similar tropes that eventually put me off watching anime altogether cause it would often come out of nowhere in the middle of an anime, leaving me sick in the stomach wondering if I should keep watching, or not. I'm not a fan of Machinas Goblin Slayer anime had its cool, smart moments, but I remember it being complete nonsense otherwise. There's definitely enough material in that one to make fun of with an Abridge series, but that would also improve the story, and characters significantly making it a worthy watch. Although I also have a sense that the whole abridge is going to be more like episode 2 of Hellsing Abridge, and I hope I'm wrong cause that would be terribly exhausting. Yu-Gi-Oh sounds like it would be a fun Abridge since it's a very silly anime that takes itself way too seriously. Plenty of material there to make fun of while still maintaining the integrity of the original story.

Yanpo

4 series I haven’t consumed. I don’t even know what Goblin Slayer is.

As much as I love Yu Gi Oh Abridged it's a bit dated, very good for its time though!

The_1KQ

SAO Abridged is fantastic. They make Kirito so much more interesting than the original.

Samuel Vincent

Yu-Gi-Oh abridged is the oldest and kinda started the trend. but it was before TFS raised the quality bar. Still good though.

Rinnzu Rosendale

Never watched sao abridged but i liked the original. Might be a interesting watch

Knight Spearhead

Goblin Slayer abridged is so damn funny

Sonia

LHA is a good one it doesn't require any real knowledge of the original series.

Digitalcabbage

idk about them watching stay night let them watch DS or AOT first better

Halibel

Another good one is Fate Stay Night Unlimited Abridged. But I recommend watching the original otherwise like 80% of the jokes will be lost on you. SAO abridged is hilarious definitely worth a look.

Digitalcabbage

SAO first because it's shorter. Then Yu Gi Oh next because it's the father of YouTube abridging. Although, I think it's the longest, so I would understand wanting to do it last after all the others.

Jesse Gallimore

SAO without a doubt lol.
