Whitley said it best "it is foolish not to do what father wants" when winter and weiss left the house, whitley was the only one left in that house to take all of the father abuse. it was no longer split between the 3 of them, so he had no choice but to become everything his father wanted him to be.

When Winter described it, she tells Weiss to, "think to your fallen foes, the ones that forced you to push past who you were and to become who you are now." They can't just be a routine fight, they have to be something that was an accomplishment in her personal journey - the knight from the trailer was a test by her father to prove she could leave, the boar was her proving herself against a new foe, etc.

Guess we would have to see the upbringing for all three and to see the difference between Winter & Weiss' upbringing and how much their mom was involved and how much they were involved with each other and how that differs from Whitley. π€ Because they all have the same father and while Winter and Weiss (early on) had/have their problems. Whitley is on another level, which makes us believe that some of it is nature in addition to the nurture (if you can call Jacques parenting that) π€

Even though we didn't get to see her that much this volume, it's still one of my favorite character arcs for Yang. We see how broken she feels after the end of volume 3, then she slowly starts to get her spark back. Also Taiyang is definitely the best father, he's such an underrated character. He's been through so pain and heartache but still tries to be positive, and you can tell how much he cares about his kids. I also love that even though Raven had her faults, Taiyang still said that she had some great qualities that he was proud to see in Yang. Always love watching your reactions, can't wait for the next ones!

2023-07-24 01:51:55 +0000 UTCAbout Whitley... Consider his upbringing. Their father is a cancer on their family, and that cancer has spread to Whitley. Whitley acts the way he does because that's literally all he knows, because Jacques conditioned him to be that way. Whitley was left behind as Winter and Weiss escaped (and by the way Weiss had her volume 1 attitude, Winter is cold and rigid and their mom has a drinking problem. All of these issues come from the same place.) My point is, all of your hatred for Whitley is really for Jacques.

2023-07-23 06:55:51 +0000 UTChow summons work for Weiss (and Winter) is that they can only summon enemies they have defeated, the knight she beat on the trailer, the boar she beat during school. As of now she has not beaten a flying enemy, the large raven they fought in season 1 was killed by Ruby.

2023-07-22 20:23:31 +0000 UTCThe bigger the creature Weiss makes, the more the semblance drains her Aura so thatβs why itβs a struggle right now for her to even summon the knight. Winter can effortlessly do the summons because sheβs had like a decade of experience with their familyβs semblance but Weiss is still new to it and is still young(17) so she doesnβt have as much Aura to her.
