Millia Rage and Zato-1(Eddie) Eddie is the shadow beast, have always had a history together from, I believe, lovers to enemies they are like two sides of the same coin, they were both part of the Assassins Guild and she wanted out, so she became his enemy, at least that's the lore that I remember. If the lore has changed, I'm sure someone else will correct me, I have not played the last several games so my lore might be outdated.
