2023-08-18 21:05:15 +0000 UTCThey actually did remove a lot of filler mixed in with the canon material. Especially in the Saiyan to Cell arc. Most of the starting contest, non-canon fights, unneccesary flashbacks etc. are gone. The only exception is filler than couldn't be removed without reanimating the series or ruining the animation flow (major examples of this are Mr. Satans students and Gregory the cricket). For example, Vegeta vs Jeice lasted 2 scenes over a total of 5 minutes in the original but was trimmed down to 1 scene of just over 2 minutes in Kai. Changes like that is how they managed to trim down the Saiyan to Cell arc from 195 episodes to just 98 (reducing it by 50%). But ever since the Great Saiyaman arc started they started to remove less and less filler. Trimming down 91 episodes of the Buu part of the series to just 70 (a reduction of only 20%).

It removes filler episodes (and not all of them) and filler arcs, but the filler put in the middle in canon material (staring contests, for example) is still there. I guess they didn't have the budget to redraw the entire series.

2023-08-17 23:12:29 +0000 UTCThe Buu saga of Kai did trim out less than the earlier sagas though. Originally it was about 91 episodes, which were cut down to 70. (Compared to 195 episodes cut down to 98 in the Saiyan to Cell portion)

2023-08-17 22:51:46 +0000 UTCIf you think Kai is dragged out, just imagine the pacing of the original... it's nearly twice as long lmao. I think you guys will really like Super, all I'll say is that it doesn't drag on as much and has a bit more emphasis on humor/comedy.
