This is probably something you are not going to pick up if you don't watch the original, and even then I think most people who started with Z instead of OG Dragon Ball don't know this, but something similar happened to mr Piccolo back then. Namekians are pacifist by nature and do not have a drive for evil, but when the original namekian (who will later become Kami) saw the evil of mankind, he got corrupted and had to expel that evil from his body to become pure again (so he could become a worthy guardian of Earth/God/Kami). By expelling that evil, Kami created Piccolo Daimao. Piccolo Daimao, just like Grey Buu here, was Kami's evil half, and he tried to take over the world. He was defeated by kid Goku, but before he died, Piccolo Daimao created Mr Piccolo, which is why Mr Piccolo and Kami's lives were linked together. Despite all that, Mr. Piccolo became good in spite of being created from a source of evil, and he did so because of his love for Gohan, but the evil of mankind has once again created their worst enemy. Totally not mark's review on the Buu saga does point out how Gohan is a common throughline here, because Gohan witnessed evil and never got corrupted by it (He almost succumbed to his darkest impulses against Cell, and his mistake did cost him Goku's life), and now we have Buu going through something similar, but is more vulnerable here.

The Evil of man was a much better title for this episode in the original and i believe the dialouge is way better but this still captures the emotional journey Buu goes through in a matter of 20 minutes. Befriends Satan and Dog only to have them both taken away from him causing a experience of loss which produces the dormant evil side of him to manifest. ITs such a brilliant way to introduce a new possible threat and just in general throws everyone for a loop.
