Dragon Ball Z Kai #147 Full Reaction

Full watch-along reaction to DBZ Kai #147

Comments

I think Piccolos reaction to the lookout is the Kami in him reacting to its destruction. Piccolo would’ve never cared about it before, but Kami was the guardian and cared for the Lookout as a sacred place.

Shadow it just comes from them not reacting to the original dragon ball with little goku. It's like watching the final season of the walking dead after watching a parody of it. There's sooo much context missing for them, they haven't grown with characters naturally so they only have an idea of them. They said it themselves, they couldn't get abridged out their head in some scenes. In the OG dragon ball, it's explained why the lookout is so sacred. This doesn't even count they're watching a fairly mixed season from dbz fans it's worth the ride but we've always been mixed on this season. It's an awkward way to start dbz but they're amazing content creators. So it's still fun.

Asuka Yousei 妖精帝國

tbh these two are incredible content creators but i just wish someone directed them to start dragon ball from the beginning with little goku. It just makes so much sense. They didn't even understand why the lookout is so sacred & why piccolo panicked. It's like starting the walking dead at season 4. So much context missing & not counting how most of us fans were mixed on this season but hey! they're amazing reactors & give in depth reviews. So it's fun.

Gotenks studied under the Frieza school of timekeeping I see.

To each their own of course. Gotenks remains a fan favourite character for a reason, and the hype train to see him in the future only grows with every chapter released. Dragonball as a whole has no shortage of serious characters. So having one that brings levity and comedic gags to a fight is refreshing as well. Although the prospect of what would have happened if Gotenks won is a interesting idea to ponder.

Flitzferkeugah

Exceptionally disagree.

What are you talking about? Piccolo and Kami merged back together in the last arc, which they saw in abridged.

k c

Since they have merged. They’re basically a new entity. “Piccolo,” as a whole, is freaking out.

k c

For you lol. I enjoy it wholeheartedly. I wish he won, though. To get that satisfaction.

k c

Maybe it’s because I was binging it back in the day, but I don’t remember being frustrated with Elder Kai or Gotenks like you two lol. Edit: And apparently, many other. It’s what makes DB DB.

The reason it's repetitive was because 75% of this episode is a filler. Here's what happen in the manga... Buu turned into ball and destroy the lookout > gotenks trapped buu and play volleyball > gotenks rapid ki blast > goku impressed with the kids > gotenks start dominating buu > gotenks defuse... That's it. They strect it into full 25 minutes when it's supposed to be like 4-5 minutes

Akira Toriyama started his career as a gag manga author. His earliest works were stuffed with comedy bits, and even when he started Dragon Ball, it oozed comedy and gags intermixed with martial arts action. After the Cell Saga though he committed to finishing up the original manga run on his own terms regardless of what his editor said; the Buu Saga is a testament (both good and bad) to that style. This is why the Gotenks fight doesn't have the same pacing or serious tone as some of the other fights. Akira Toriyama was trying to make the entire fight a big gag and while some of the other fights with that idea worked. (IE - Krillin vs Bacterian) this one fell short.

God's house being destroyed would be a big deal so we understand

Bethany and Ken

The pacing is definitely off but ssj3 is my favorite transformation by far so It's not as intolerable. But the next episode is a wild one so hang in.

These Gotenks episodes are exceptionally bad imo.

Repetition thy name is Dragon Ball. Fortunately things get better paced from here on. I do agree that act 2 is probably the weakest part of this arc due to its repetitiveness and how flat some of these plot points feel after all the hyping up they did. It's not an uncommon opinion that the Buu saga is the weakest arc of the original manga and this is a main reason why. Also I think the implication with Piccolo's freaking-out of the Lookout, is the part of him that remerged with Kami. Since Kami roughly translate to "God", Piccolo's basically freaking out at God's house being destroyed. Also, the typically cool and collected Piccolo, freaking out, is well, comedy, and well that's Dragon Ball.
